A Week On The Wrist: The Zenith El Primero Chronograph Classic
The El Primero Chronograph Classic from Zenith, a watch launched rather quietly at Baselworld 2015, caught my eye immediately. It reminded me of those old Zeniths of the 1950s, and in my belief, will do its part in reviving an entirely overlooked category of watches that I know people love, though we don't hear much about it – that of the in-house dress chronograph, under $10,000. Sure, you have your GPs, Pateks, Langes, and Vacherons, which are all truly stunning dress chronographs, but under or at $10K, all in-house chronographs that have any real meaning are big, bulky, sport watches. An interesting article about the SD vs. the SDDS
RJ from the blog site Fratello Watches posted an article with some interesting observations about the Sea-Dweller vs. the Deep Sea Sea-Dweller - you can read by clicking here. For me personally, I'm with him 100% - the watch just doesn't appeal to me. I respect it for it's engineering achievements, but beyond that, I don't find it attractive, nor is it practical for me to wear with my typical wardrobe. Here's a few shots of the SDDS I tried on in Tokyo:Where I don't necessarily agree with RJ is the value outlook for the watch. Yes, in the short term, the 16600 seems to be enjoying a bit of a bump. But consider how many fewer SDDS there are out there and how they're selling relative to the rest of the Rolex line. I wonder - do we have another future Cosmograph on our hands? Back in the 60's, dealers practically couldn't give the Cosmograph away - no one cared for them at all. So they sold in extremely small quantities, and well....the rest is history.What do you think? datejust smooth bezel scratching
Hi everyone,Considering a first Rolex to celebrate a special occasion in my life and am leaning towards a Datejust 41 with a smooth bezel. I started out only considering a sub but saw the DJ at my AD and just loved the look of the smooth bezel. My concern was if the bezel scratches easily and if that would make it look less amazing over time. Been lurking for a while and thanks for all of your knowledge. I have learned so much from all of you. Great group of people here
