Glashutte 39--42-54-05 wrist watches news:
Welcome back to an original watches-dealer feature, "My First Grail Watch." In this series, we ask prominent people in the watch industry about the first timepiece that they lusted after. Today, we've got an interview that's - well, let's call it a belated birthday present for the interviewee.?We're speaking with the man, the myth, the legend - watches-dealer's founder, Ariel Adams.watches-dealer (ABTW): Who are you, and what is your relationship to the watch industry?Ariel Adams (AA): My name is Ariel Adams, and you may have heard of me. I am the founder of watches-dealer and discuss watches in publications all over the world.ABTW: When did your fascination with watches start?AA: I became a "watch guy" when I was about 20 years old, but looking back at my history, I've worn a watch on my wrist since early childhood - sometimes two of them.ABTW: What was your first grail watch?AA: That would go back many years, to the 1980s. The first watch I ever recall really wanting and didn't have
Craig & I were watching this eBay auction:cgi.ebay/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...ht_1149wt_1147Quite a nice ending price for the seller, huh? Up until this point, I had never seen one of these 19ASD versions with the smaller date wheel (so it's more to the middle of the dial instead of at the 3:00 position) sell for more than $2000. Usually they go for $1400 - $1800 depending on condition. If I didn't like my Conquest so much I might be tempted to list it and make a few hundred!AU $2670 = US $2257, by the way.
who has it and what do you think as the first PAM? post some pics if you have it.
and there were two things that I noticed. First, when I pulled the crown out to adjust the time, I saw that the seconds hand in the left sub-dial would jump and move about 10 seconds forward as I turned the crown and didn't quite return to its original position. Then I put the minute hand exactly at the 12 o'clock position and saw that the hour hand did not line up exactly with any of the hour markers. It was only slightly off, but this was especially noticeable when I put the time to 12 o'clock where the hour hand seemed one minute ahead I where it should have been. The watch was new in the display case, but I didn't ask the sales lady about it as this was at a jewelry store and she started off our conversation by saying that she didn't know all that much about watches. Has anyone else noticed this in the 9300 Speedie? I'm just starting to learn about watches and automatic movements, but it seems to me that a watch in this price range shouldn't have this problem. Thanks.
More shots to be followed ..They're actually 3 Horses (Blue, Green & Brown) ... :-)
