I was in Singapore recently and spoke to an AD there about a few watches. He said the the current Explorer II was likely to be discontinued soon.Has anyone heard this along the grapevine?If this is so will the Explorer II become a collector piece?

straps at the flea market
Saw this today at the flea market/antique show. It was a four sided display and this side was the only one with bands (the others were blank). I thought the advertising was kinda cool but the little price tag was $275. I did see a nice Omega constellation and a Hamilton Perry 14k GF. The lady said the Hamilton was running. The second hand was, but after 2 hours when I got back to her booth the hour/minute hadn't moved. I passed.

A watch for my mom
So, my mom passed away October 2016. I¡¯ve been wanting to do something to honor her that I could pass on to one of my sons (I had previously inherited a 1680 from my dad who passed in 2005). After much research and internal debating, I¡¯ve decided to go with an Explorer 214270 (current release). This is not a piece to add to my collection.My reasoning for this specific watch is that I believe this piece embodies many of the characteristics of my mom. 1. Simplicity, not complicated 2. Resilience (never gave up) 3. Dependability and reliability 4. She never changed or wavered over the years, except for her appearance (getting older) 5. Elegant and beautiful, even in blue jeans. My new to me GMTc arrived a few days ago, has been loved and worn by the previous owner, it¡¯s a 2008 watch, and from what i can tell it hasn¡¯t been serviced. I¡¯m already pretty committed to taking it to an AD here in AUS, or the RSC itself in Sydney, just to get it serviced and checked over and start my journey with basically a like new watch. I know the service price is quite high, but i¡¯m willing to pay for it considering I want everything spot on and guaranteed perfect. This is pretty much a question for you Aus owners out there, do you think this is a good course of action, or do you have any recommendations in sydney that you think would do a equal if not better job for a lower price?If they can¡¯t compare in quality i¡¯m happy to hand over my money to the RSC.
