There are, let’s face it, not a whole lot of real firsts in watchmaking, which isn’t surprising when you think about its history. The lever escapement, which is found  in basically every modern watch in one form or another, blew into town in 1750; the minute repeater had basically taken on its current form by the end of the 18th century; the first perpetual calendar watch is probably one made by Thomas Mudge, in 1764.  The history of watchmaking is very much a history of small, hard-won incremental improvements that unfolded over a very long period of time, which is why watches like Audemars Piguet’s caliber 2870 automatic tourbillon – less well known for its reference number, 25643, than for the name of the movement, for reasons we’ll see shortly –  continue to be interesting, and continue to be stories worth telling. Hi All,I posted a similar question on the PP forum and most recommend the Nautilus for my collection but thought I would throw it out here on the AP forum as well to get a different perspective. My current collection is below. I am considering flipping the PAM and adding another watch to the collection. After getting my Patrimony and PP Annual Calendar, the PAM is just too big and bulky. I have decided to add another SS watch on a bracelet to give me another alternative to the GMT II during the hot summer months and something that can go casual or with a suit. I also think a blue dial would fit well with my collection so am considering either the Nautilus or Royal Oak. Given my current collection, which do you guys think would be a better fit, Nautilus or RO? Factors I am considering are also availability, price, resale value, service cost, etc. For those recommending the RO, can you tell me why you would recommend one over the other? Shall I make the trade for my first AP ... 15305
I have been looking at AP's for quite some time, as I do not own one yet. I was initially looking at an AP ROC in rose gold then the day-date in RG. But then, the 15305 open worked skeleton stole all of my attention. I know skeletons are not for everyone, but the artistry behind this watch is simply amazing! I would probably trade my VC Overseas, VC Patrimony, and a third or fourth watch plus cash to make this happen and enter the AP world. Thoughts?For And probablySent from my 16M
