Attention or Low Key?
I often read about some members getting "compliments" on their watches.This has happened to me ,perhaps, three times in 25 years and,each time, it was from someone who was familiar with watches.Today I wore 2 watches.One was the Omega Planet Ocean (orange bezel) which IMHO is a beautiful timepiece but not a real attention grabber among the non-WIS community.The other was a nice looking CF dial chrono. The CF dial really jumps out ,nearly to the point of overpowering the rest of the dial.It dawned on me that 90% of my collection was very traditional as far as watch design is concerned and that may be why I get few comments. (which I prefer)Upon looking at the other 10% I saw that they were the Big,MOP,CF dials,or odd shaped that ,although pretty, were not something that I view as a major factor in buying a watch. They are more jewelry ingredients than watch design to me.I suppose that I am an old school watch guy who enjoys his watches as timepieces over jewelry.

An Analog Tool in the Digital Age
Hey everyone, I just wanted to stop in and sort of less-than-formally introduce myself in what is probably the best way possible on this forum. My name is Zach and I'm a hopeful future watch collector. I know it's a costly endeavor, but you'd be preaching to the choir if you told me that, as my current passion is bleeding edge electronics.I started (as many of you probably saw) with a Bulova BVA-100 as my first mechanical watch just over a year ago in December 2008 (I think); received as trade for a computer of his I fixed. (I almost had a Citizen Eco-Drive, but I ended up trading it in for the upgrade). I moved on to a Yobokies Seiko SNK809 in until misfortune and a hard trip on a flight of stairs broke my movement (and thankfully not my wrist). I'm currently wearing a Hamilton Jazzmaster 1960s Automatic on a black leather strap daily.Here's some pictures I just snapped that I think you may find enticing (because we all love the pictures to do the talking). Is the new SMP bracelet with screws a step backward?
Do you think the new SMP bracelet with the screws to secure the links a step backwards from the previous pins and collars?The new system uses two tiny screws on each side to secure a pin the middle to hold the links together. To me, the tiny screws are ... tiny! They are easily lost, much worse than the collars in the old system.And I have no problem with the pin and collar system. With the right tool, I can size the bracelet easily with no risk of scratch. Now I have to mess with the tiny polished screws, its much easier to lose the screws, and scratch the screws or links with a slip!I wished Omega kept the old pin and collar system or just go with a single large screw to hold the links together.
