Why are watches today so big? That is a question we at watches-dealer get asked a lot - and it is a typical source of conversation (and contention) among people who like watches. It is true that wrist watches today are larger than they have been historically, but perhaps not as large as they were a few years ago. What we are talking about is mostly the diameter of a watch case (usually measured in millimeters) and to an extent the thickness of a case.How do you define a "big watch?" There is no specific size at which a watch becomes "big" or "massive" or "small." Though, I will say that people started commenting on large watch sizes when timepieces measuring 44mm wide from companies such as Panerai and others started to become popular in the early 2000s and, to a degree, the late 1990s.In the 1990s, the typical size for a men's watch was in the 37-39mm wide range. 6426 - Restoration Advice Sought
Hi folks. I was going through my junk watch drawer and came across the watch I bought back in 1989 shortly after moving to Hong Kong. If I remember correctly, I paid about US$100 for it.As you can see, at some stage there was a very half-assed refinishing of the dial. I always suspected that it was a fake but when having the crystal changed at a watchmaker back in the early 90's, he mentioned that the watch is real, but that the dial was re-finished and the oyster band that was on the watch at the time is an aftermarket one. I think the hands may be incorrect as well. The crown looks a like it could be wrong, too.For the first time in ages I wound up the watch and wouldn't you know it, it runs like a charm.The watch is a bit small for my tastes, but I think it would make a nice gift for my son who is 7 years old for him to wear when going to church or on special occasions.What is the possibility of getting a NOS proper dial and bracelet for this watch? Mainspring Question
I recently bought some mainsprings for a variety of movements6/0, 8/0, 14/0, etc. Some of the mainsprings are Dynavar and specifically for the 8/0 747, 748 movements.I noticed last night when trying to install one the Dynavar variety was considerably narrower than the typical spring I see and it was also a little shorter. But the narrower part concerned me since it needs to fit in the same barrel.The almost looked like they should be for a different movement (like a smaller ladies variety). However, I have several similar springs all in labeled packets.So - I was wondering if anyone has experience here and can offer an explaination.Are Dynavar springs supposed to go into a special mainspring barrel? Is the narrower width a concern at all?

New PAM 1392
Love the 1392 and different strap combinations. Bought the rubber and dark brown calf and both are very comfortable. The 42mm just felt a little more right size wise for me on 6.75inch wrists. Could have probably pulled off the 1312 so this was just personal preference.
