Well, it's finally almost sort of here, Summer, as marked by Memorial Day. This much loved and awaited for long weekend is not only an official holiday of remembrance, it's also the first time people light up their grills for the season (ok, if you've been following us on instagram, you know we started a couple of weeks ago). And¡­ if you happen to have a boss who believes in such things, Summer Fridays (which is the real start of Summer, right?)! Anyway, long story short, it's a long weekend when the weather is usually nice in which we encourage each other to drink cold beer and eat grilled meat. So, it's one of the best weekends.Of course, the holiday itself is a day to remember and give respect to those of the US Armed Forces who have fallen in combat. Recently purchased American Watch Co (Waltham) Wm Ellery 777352 pocket watch. It runs Ok not really experienced but I'd call it beating kind of weak. It keeps pretty good time. I notice it doesn't run down very much then stops. If I wind it it only takes about 5 half turns to full wind. I've noticed that if I move the hands with the key it starts running again. Since I discovered this I'm going to repeat the process to find out if the main spring takes more turns to rewind and if it runs as well as it runs down. Basically what does the symptom of restarting a stopped watch by moving the minute hand say about the watch workings?Thanks for the info.

Browsing around some other forums I saw a discussion about a vintage watch from Brand P that had a Brand W dial on it. Both brands used the same automatic caliber under their own rebadged model number, so parts are interchangeable. It was an obvious franken, but get this - a vintage dealer (his website was in his signature) said "If you redial it to [Brand P] you will have a decent and legit watch." I can't believe I resisted commenting! It isn't decent, and it isn't legit in any way. How would an aspiring collector feel if he found out he bought this watch expecting it to be authentic? This is why it's so important to get references and have good contacts.Okay, I'm stepping down off my soapbox and getting back to work.
