IWC IWC 44601 wrist watches news:
The mainspring of a watch retains the energy it receives from winding by coiling tightly around the center arbor. It is always trying to unwind to relieve the tension created by winding. As it unwinds, it transfers it's energy to the gears in the watch's movement via the meshed teeth on the outside edge of the barrel drum. Regulating the release of this energy in a consistent manner is how your watch keeps accurate time.1) barrel drum2) mainspring3) barrel arbor4) barrel coverFrom a fully wound state a watch with a common 40 hour reserve spring requires about 5 turns to completely unwind, so the barrel rotates once every 8 hours. The maximum number of rotations to completely unwind a typical mainspring should be no more than 8 - 10 turns. The length of the mainspring is determined by factors like the radius of the arbor, the inner radius of the barrel, and the thickness of the metal used to fashion the spring. It usually occupies 50% of the space inside the barrel. A larger barrel wil
Got my first AP today (pre-owned 25730). For my 6.3 wrist a 37mm works better for most ocassions. I was seriously tempted by a 39mm 26300, but the better fit and versatility of the 37mm for my wrist size won out (for now). Also considered the 15450, but decided I preferred the more casual look and the usefulness of the second time zone (and the blue 15450 isn't available). Very few photos do justice (mine certainly doesn't) to the beauty and level of finishing of an AP. Have a feeling this watch will get more than it's fair share of wrist time for a little while.
Ok...dumb question I know.Watches with the 3120 movement are set by turning the crown counter clockwise...I.e. opposite to most modern day men's Rolex but wound clockwise...Takes a bit of getting used to.Is the setting / winding convention the same for other AP movements?
Looking to get a pre-loved 5980 from a friend but noticed this when i was inspecting the watch. When I reset the chrono hand of the 5980, it resets to 59 instead of 0. I have to double click the button ( so essentially its holding at 0 with 1 second elapsed on the timer ) to engage the chrono function so it will align to 0. Is it okay if i leave it at 0 with that method or better if the chrono function is reset Thanks!
IĄ¯ve been kicking around the idea of a new everyday watch which would fly under the radar at work. After watching the forums for the past few weeks IĄ¯ve been drawn more and more to the Black Bay Black ETA. I donĄ¯t buy my watches as investments as I tend to enjoy all of them upon purchase. My question is this, would I be purchasing at the high of the market by doing so today or would it be possible to wait a bit and buy on a dip? From what IĄ¯ve read these seem to be fairly rare in terms of a short production cycle.
