Martin Braun Grande Chrono Watch Available On James List
Watch maker Martin Braun recently announced that he is going to go independent from the Franck Muller Group (who are financially in horrid shape right now). Why is Martin able to do this? Because his watches are popular enough and also a good value. Not sure about the minor details about his going independent, but is certainly happening, and the new batch of watches are coming out in about 6 months from now. I had the opportunity to meet with Mr. Braun personally once. He is a nice guy and really into watch making. Has a good eye for detail, and is more of an artist and technician than business man in my opinion (a good thing).Most all of his watches are good to own. You might like some more than others, but here is a nicely designed good value timepiece that reminds me of a more refined Montblanc timepiece. Funny how both Martin Braun and Montblanc are often appreciated to "MB." This is the steel and black version of the Brand Chrono watch.? It is 42mm wide and has a Swiss ETA Valjoux

Last week we discussed the importance of dials. This week, how important is the strap?Hamilton straps, many of which seem to be Di-Modell, appear to be of a high quality. Do you go for a watch that has an exotic (croc, gator, ostrich, or lizard) strap?Are you a vegan and look for watch straps with man-made materials?What color strap do you gravitate to?I'm strapping myself in for your responses. . .

Straps for Vintage Hamiltons
Hello!I'm relatively new to your group....Several years ago, I became aware that my great grandfather must have been something of a WIS. Sharing the trait, my mom has given me all of his collection...which includes several Hamilton/Elgin/Waltham pocket watches and surprisingly for the late 20s/early 30s quite a few wrist watches. They both run pretty well (although a service is definitely in order). I particularly would like to wear a couple of the Hamilton wrist models: A white gold Coronado A yellow-gold StanleyI think both would look good on a relatively plain black leather strap...but was wondering what the folks on here would recommend? Is there a great source for NOS Hamilton straps?Thanks,John in San Antonio
