Hands-On: The Tudor Black Bay Bronze
The latest Tudor Black Bay, in bronze, is the first Black Bay to have Tudor's in-house movement; it's also a (slightly) larger version of the Black Bay, at 43 mm as opposed to 41 for other models. Bronze is an alloy of copper and tin (brass, incidentally, is a copper alloy as well, but of copper and zinc) and Tudor's added aluminum to the mix as well in order to control the amount of patina that forms, and the rate at which it was formed. (I asked Tudor if I might ask what the percentage of aluminum was, and the reply was "you can ask" lest we forget that Tudor is a Rolex company.) 1 OF 8 The first visual impression I had of the Black Bay Bronze was certainly of a larger watch but I'm not sure I really felt it was larger than any of the steel Black Bay models (well, except for the 36 mm, of course). No, your eyes do not deceive you. The same brand that brought you this is now showing, for the first time ever, an extra-thin watch! The announcement from Hublot came out today that they would be expanding their Classic Fusion line to include the extra-thin skeletons you see above.The Classic Fusion Extra-Thin Skeleton will be available in a LE of 1000 pieces in titanium and 500 pieces in gold.? They are sized at 45mm and feature a brand new movement, the HUB1300 hand-wound, that is only 2.9mm thick, with a power reserve of 90 hours. What is it that makes us love Omega watches?
Until getting my SMP I bought many good watches, but now I only wear my Omega. We all see watches out there that have ETA 2824's with sapphire crystals, nice bracelets, etc, selling on TV or the web for about $299. I used to buy them, but stopped after buying my SMP. What makes us step up to the plate and pay about 7 times that amount or an Omega, over and over again. I know that I will be getting another Omega some day. It's like an addiction. Try it once, and you're hooked. Just thought I would ask the forum to reflect, and tell us why Omega is so addicting. What makes us buy more than one?Hope you had a good weekend.
