New F.P. Journe Book and Exhibit Celebrate Historic Gunmetal Watches
Most of the watches that Francois-Paul Journe produces for his independent brand are anything but “proletarian:” most come in gold or platinum cases and have movement parts made of 18k rose gold. However, Journe’s newest publishing project, “Steel Time,” celebrates the classic burnished steel “gunmetal” watches of the mid- to late 19th century and how they made timepieces accessible to the masses. “Steel Time” is written by vintage-watch experts Jean Claude Sabrier and Georges Rigot. Journe, who contributes the preface, has assembled what he says is the world’s largest collection of gunmetal watches (some of which he acquired from Sabrier, another collector of vintage steel timepieces) ¡ª a total of 200, all of which are covered in the tome’s 300 pages and are on display throughout the summer at the Forbes Galleries, on New York City’s Fifth Avenue. I cant find any feedback or reviews on the calibre.The Miyota website shows the specs etc but I am interested in a " grass roots" review of its actual reliability and performance. How often do we see somebody make an entrance like this?:Breitling 1806er project. Where to begin????This is no job for anyone with a weak constitution. You need the patience of a statue to come by these parts, and be prepared to pay through the nose. And he's doing it himself! Do you think I can pull this one off?
I¡¯ve been seriously thinking about adding a PM model to my collection. The only thing standing in my way is my better half because she believes the boxes are taking up precious space, and the $ , and... etc etc etc.... you get the point.I recently realized that other than counting the number of boxes, she has very little idea of which watch is what and their value. I did an experiment by swapping my DSSD with a friend¡¯s 116710LN for a week and successfully flew under the radar. Don¡¯t get me wrong, my better half is smart as hell, just she doesn¡¯t seems to pay much attention to watches.So..ooo.. I came up with this is idea of consolidating my collection, trade my 16710 Pepsi and YM + ? for a 116719 BLRO. Say nothing and wear it like my 16710 Pepsi... and if she does ask, admit nothing! Obviously, if I can pull this off the enjoyment will be very rewarding. But if I fail, something is gonna lose...If you have any similar experience, please share!
