Ulysse Nardin Launches Marine Chronograph Manufacture With In-House Movement
Ulysse Nardin’s journey toward more in-house movement production, a stated goal of UN CEO Patrik Hoffman, continued apace at this year’s Baselworld, when the brand released the new Marine Chronograph Manufacture, its first chronograph watch with an in-house movement.The watch’s story begins last year, when Ulysse Nardin purchased the rights to Ebel’s Caliber 137, the chronograph movement that has now been renamed Ulysse Nardin Caliber 150 and manufactured exclusively by UN at its workshop in Le Locle, Switzerland. The Marine Chronograph Manufacture follows up last year’s major introduction of the Marine Chronometer Manufacture, which contained the brand’s very first in-house movement, COSC-certified chronometer Caliber Un-118.Ulysse Nardin has outfitted the original Ebel movement with its own silicon escapement, which beats at a frequency of 28,800 vph; even the balance spring, made of silicon, is made in-house. Picked up another IWC classic today...
I lied when I said the cal 89 definitely would be my last purchase in 2007. I ran across this iconic and rare IWC Doppel Chronograph 3711 and could not resist. It came with the original box and papers, but sadly not the original steel bracelet. I am now in the hunt to replace the strap with the one that was the OEM steel bracelet. The 3711 was only in production for two years, 1993-1995 and was replaced by the 3713 that was in production for 10 years. This is one is relatively rare and quite a find.Merry Christmas and Happy New Year all....Bill

Not something I ever expected to have in my collection, the Patek Philippe Aquanaut..
So recently, I've been narrowing down my collection a little. I still have a decent sized box full of a variety of watches, but there's no doubt I've been culling the watches I don't wear as much. This has included the new Daytona, various vintage pieces, a couple of Yacht-Masters etc.Another reason for me doing this was the fact I had the Nautilus from Patek in mind. I'd rang a fair few dealers with no luck of getting hold of one in double quick time, and I'd all but given up. I was also struggling a little with watch insurance above certain values, and didn't really know where to go with things.That was until I passed the window of a Patek Philippe boutique whilst away for the Goodwood Festival of Speed. I visited a town that I wasn't particularly familiar with on my day off from the festival, and they had a couple of watches I was intrigued by. These were a solid rose gold 5711r Nautilus, and an Aquanaut. It felt rude not to try them on of course!Well the Nautilus was stunning. Howe
