Invicta 14879 wrist watches news:
I have been bad mouthing the new DD without actually giving it a chance until I bumped into one today at the local AD. Sadly, or maybe happily(if you are my checking account) I still dislike it even more after seeing it in person. To me it just looks all wrong, too large for that style. The best way I can put it is that it looks like an oversized prop that a clown would have. It would be my guess that it won't stick around in the lineup too long and will soon go the way of the Dodo bird. The sales woman also agreed and said they weren't really moving as the original DD or any new release from Rolex. Just my .02
Good things do sometimes come to those who wait. In this case, a watch I really liked and wanted to add to my collection arrived non-functioning and the vendor did not have a replacement watch. I chose to take advantage of the vendors warranty for the repair and I'm glad I did. I have to admit the wait for the return of a watch in for repair is excruciating but I have to say this wait has been worth every minute.Meet the Hamilton Jazzmaster Petite Seconds with the ETA 2895-2 27-jewel movement. The Petite Seconds model H32555557 is a pretty much typical medium size Jazzmaster.41mm case diameter, polished and brushed finish11mm thicknessSapphire scratch resistant crystalScrew-in sapphire crystal see-through backDark brown embosed alligator leather strap with logoed pin buckleIt was returned to me from repair with a sheet explaining the movement had been serviced, timed, and tested for water resistance and included a Watch Expert II print out stating the timing and water resistance test
I'd like to start collecting some vintage Hamilton watches, but I'm pretty naive as what to look for. I'm looking at a few on e-bay right now, but I'd like to know a few things about them first. What do they mean when they say a watch has 17 jewels or 21 jewels? I mean what is a jewel? (I told you I was naive on the subject!)What movement should I look for? I see alot of different numbers, so what is a good movement? What kind of accuracy should I expect from a vintage wind-up? I'm sure it's not quartz accurate, and I'm not looking for that, but is it actually usable time-keeping?Should you buy original or refurbished? What were the crystals made of back in the day?I've always had good luck purchasing things on e-bay, so is e-bay a good place to buy vintage Hamiltons? They have alot of them there, especially in the $2-$300 price range which is what I'm looking to spend right now.Anything else I should be looking for?OK guys, this is your chance to create another vintage Hamilton junkie! I
have just bought a 2 month old 5711 with blue dial.i love the dial and design and everything.only things is...i hate the clasping system! it's so hard to remove and it feels so delicate and i feel as if i might break it everytime.and another thing... i've never spent so much on a steel watch, now i feel scared to wear it in case it gets scratched...i also find it a bit thin and delicate. fyi i also have a ROO and submariner which are huge in comparison to this.now i'm having thoughts of selling it and getting something else.can anyone share their opinions with me?
I'm looking for recommendations for a storage box to hold atleast 8 watches. Most are manual wind on deployants so the lay flat boxes won't work. The box will also need to fit in a safe so it doesn't need to be extremely fancy but I do prefer wood. Thanks in advance!
