Baselworld 2015: The Perrelet Turbine Skeleton
Perrelet’s most recognizable family is the Turbine collection. These watches, featuring an oscillating turbine seen through cut-outs in the dial, have become the company’s signature, and now represent the majority of Perrelet’s watches on the market. Since the design relies on an idea of openwork, letting you see into the dial, it’s always felt just a little bit like a skeletonized watch. But Perrelet offered no skeletonized version of the Turbine ¨C until now. At Baselworld this year, Perrelet introduces the Turbine Skeleton in three different case designs.The Turbine Skeleton has a 44-mm diameter and is 13.3 mm thick. Its case is made of stainless steel with black PVD coating. The dial and accents around the edges of the bezel are in black or in a silver color, which also matches the lugs. F. P. Journe Chronom¨¨tre Bleu
F. P. Journe announces the Chronom¨¨tre Bleu. The 39mm case is carved from tantalum, a dark gray metal with blue overtones. Tantalum is rarely used in watchmaking because its density and high melting temperature make it difficult to manipulate. Through the display back, the balance and escapement appear mysteriously detached from the movement, beating with no apparent motive force. Journe has placed the connecting train under the dial, leaving only the center wheel to highlight the isolation of the balance. The manually wound movement oscillates at 21,600v/h. Twin barrels work in parallel to deliver stable power for much of its 56-hour autonomy. Elgin exposition case? What is this?
I came across this at my local auction house, came in a biiiiig box of stuff.Sorry about the crappy pictures, taking them at my desk rather than my 'photo booth'I did some quick searching but I can't find anything. It looks like it's made out of steel, both sides have glass (one of the round glass pieces is a bit loose), and the side is marked 'Elgin National Watch Co." They lock together, and by twisting one way you can pull the two parts apart easily. It looks to be about the size of a large pocket watch movement.It looks like maybe a pocket watch movement went in there, so you could see the face and the movement. There's no place for a stem or crown, but maybe it was just for display.I can't find anything like this, so if anyone could help that would be lovely! And, maybe a price would be nice to

Gruen Longacre
One of my acquisitions at the recent NAWCC Mid-Winter in Daytona Beach...a 14K white gold Gruen Longacre, using the 21 jewel Quadron caliber 3251 movement, one that is rarely seen. I've been looking for one of these for quite a while.The watch was designed as a tribute to Fred Gruen's son-in-law, Dr. Jacob Longacre, who married Fred's daughter Margaret. It was advertised in 1931. I'll share some more of my recent pick-ups as time allows.Cary

AP 15400 Band Adjustment Question
I just picked up a brand new AP15400, I series with white/silver dial. I just can't get a good fit on the band as 4 links removed and it's a bit too uncomfortable to wear for more then a few hours and 3 links is simply too lose. After doing some googling this afternoon the only answer I can seem to find is a 1.5 link that AP sells for 271 dollars, MR.404.155.ST. With tax and shipping it's about 330 dollars landed. Kind of wish a half link was provided as with the VC overseas or there was an option of doing some fine adjustments through the clasp as with Rolex's. I think the problem is somewhat common as APNA had to check stock and told me they sell a lot of these. I've seen the process of how the links are made so I'm not surprised at the cost but it still feels a bit cash grabby to have to immediately spend 330 just to get a decent fit.I'm 99% sure this is the only solution but would love to hear if anyone has any other options.
