Watches are inextricably linked with the armed forces. Without trivializing the enormous impact of war on human existence, it’s fascinating to note the range of models produced by legendary watchmakers for use by soldiers around the world, like iconic MilSub’s or Mark XI’s. Compared to these relatively well known military-issue watches, there is one model that stands out for its simplicity and unexpected good looks: the Majetek pilot’s watch issued to members of the Czech Air Force in the late 1930's and early '40’s. Together, the cushion-shaped case, black dial, and simple Arabic hour numerals form a sharp package that looks just as relevant today as it was back then. And the Majetek also stands out for its affordability relative to other military watches of that time currently available on the vintage market. 2 OF 8 This military-spec example features engraved numbers on the solid case back. Some models also feature double-sword insig
Moments ago, Bremont unveiled its latest special creation, the Codebreaker. This flyback chronograph GMT watch takes its styling cues from 1940s officer watches and incorporates components salvaged from Bletchley Park, the center of WWII code breaking in Britain. Here we have an in-depth look at the aptly-named Codebreaker, including details on the historical connections, technical specs, pricing, and even some early live photos. 2 OF 31 Breaking Codes At Bletchley Park To create the Codebreaker, Bremont has worked closely with the Bletchley Park Trust to gather original materials from the days of British code-cracking during World War II. Bletchley Park was the center of the British (and in many ways the Allied) decryption effort, uncovering the secrets held in messages created with German Enigma and Lorenz machines. Thousands of scientists worked with cutting edge machinery to keep the Allies abreast of the Axis's latest communications, fighting the all-importa
If you love an Explorer I .... you just have to love this watch.
Hello,I really enjoy this forum and I know a topic thats been beat to death but I still can't decide. I love my 5167 but just wish it was a little bigger, I am not a small guy. But I have a AP 15710 and I just find it these days to be too big and wear it rarely. Would a 5164 meet right in the middle or is the diameter not noticeable? Thickness seems perfect just under 12mm. I have consolidated my watch collection down considerably. Now down to the two above mentioned and a newer Explorer II at 42mm. Which by the way to me is the absolute perfect size in a watch. Thickness and diameterI would appreciate the typical well informed opinions here!!Thank you!
