The watch maketh the man, not his clothes. At least, that’s our line of thinking at HODINKEE. But sartorial choices have come under scrutiny this week. After entertaining the idea that watches could in fact be worn with a tuxedo (shocker, right?), we take a look at a new collection of tailor-inspired and tailor-made watches from Vacheron Constantin. 1 OF 12 Capitalizing on the resurgence of style, as defined by men who shop exclusively on Saville Row and have Pitti Uomo saved in their calendar for the next ten years, Vacheron Constantin have teamed up with the world’s oldest fabric manufacturer, Vitale Barberis Canonico, for a sartorial debut of sorts. 2 OF 12 3 OF 12 Unveiled this morning in Paris, on the opening day of the Journées Européenes des Métiers d’Arts (JEMA), the "Elegance Sartorial” collection faithfully re-creates famous woven patterns such as the Prince of Wales check, using the maison&r
It's Friday, and here's a Friday Hamilton. I thought it looked appropriate with my old calabash pictured with a copy of the first page of "The Story of the Man with the Watches," from the Strand Magazine, July 1898, taken from my copy of "The World Bibliography of Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson." Nope, the snippet doesn't give a clue how the rest of the story evolved, except I'll bet pocket watches were involved. But I am sure the solution was elementary - to Holmes, anyway.
The Grand Seiko Quartz SBGX059, 061, & 063 are now finally available in the US. Typically these pieces are special order only and can take anywhere from 3-6 months to arrive. Luckily, we ordered them back in Nov. and the 1st shipment of authorized Grand Seiko Quartz just landed in the US. They are tremendous quality and incredibly accurate at a rating of +/- 10 sec a year. The movement is also very impressive at a 50 year recommended service time.I hope you all enjoy the pics.GS-SBGX059-1 by JoeAZFT, on FlickrGS-SBGX059-2 by JoeAZFT, on FlickrGS-SBGX059-3 by JoeAZFT, on FlickrGS-SBGX059-4 by JoeAZFT, on FlickrGS-SBGX059-5 by JoeAZFT, on FlickrGS-SBGX059-6 by JoeAZFT, on FlickrGS-SBGX059-7 by JoeAZFT, on FlickrGS-SBGX061-1 by JoeAZFT, on FlickrGS-SBGX061-2 by JoeAZFT, on FlickrGS-SBGX061-3 by JoeAZFT, on FlickrGS-SBGX061-4 by JoeAZFT, on FlickrGS-SBGX061-5 by JoeAZFT, on FlickrGS-SBGX061-6 by JoeAZFT, on FlickrGS-SBGX063-1 by JoeAZFT, on FlickrGS-SBGX063-2 by JoeAZFT, on FlickrG
Considering trying my first panerai. There is one in Canada that I like. It is a 2011 panerai 88 gmt. Its from a seller I trust. The watch comes with rubber strap, deployment, papers, and nothing else. No box, accessories, or extra straps, he wants to keep those.. I'm trying to negotiate for $5000 Canadian (about $3850US). Does this sound about right? Thanks guys.Josh
