Longines L5.655.6.16.6 wrist watches news:
One of the most art deco watches in the Gruen Quadron line, and not an easy watch to locate. I've only seen 2 yellow examples for sale in 7 years, and perhaps 4 white examples. 38 x 22mm, these photos were taken when I bought it perhaps 6 years ago. When I got it, all seemed to be original old enamel fill, original dial, unengraved back, beveled crystal, and perfect-running 119 Quadron movement. (I have seen one other with a 117 movement, but this case is clearly marked 119-70.) Other than a light rub with simichrome polish (which hid the brassing at the highpoints on the corners), an occasional touch of a jewelers cloth, and a very light cleaning of the dial, and a Debeer handmade strap, all remains exactly as it was the day I bought it. I think I've only worn it once. Hmmm, I might wear it this weekend!
Worked a few extra hours and have a nice little chunk of change to snag a decent vintage watch - but I can't find one that I like. Frankens, redials, schlock.and anything that was even close to decent had an insane price. Man, eBay has a foul stench recently. Anybody been trolling and hooked a keeper, modern or vintage?
I bought a Debaufre Ocean 1 about 6 months ago. It's a great looking watch, but runs a little fast. It gains about 4-5 minutes every 10 -12 days. I sent it back them to have the movement checked and possibily regulated/adjusted. I just got it back and according to them, it runs fine. Is 4 -5 minutes in 10 to 12 days OK? I know it has a 2824-2 movement, but I have an Invicta 9938 with the same movement and it keeps better time.
