I watched a great program I had recorded from HDNet on Baselworld and independent watchmakers - those few artists who make every component by hand. A fantastic show.Well, I was impressed with the love and care that is put into these watches. And then I thought about the similar sort of care and direction that a family run business would have over a product. Yesterday someone posted something about Bvlgari buying up small companies with rich traditions. It seems sort of gross to me. I know that most companies are 'groups' of several corporations. And I know that most companies use ETA and other shared components and cases and stuff.So, there are two ideas that are becoming more important to me: In-house movements and family ownership or control inside a corporation.
