Welcome back to an original watches-dealer feature, "My First Grail Watch". In this series, we ask prominent people in the watch industry about the first timepiece that they lusted after.watches-dealer (ABTW): Who are you and what is your relationship to the watch industry?Roland G. Murphy (RGM): I am the man and watchmaker behind RGM Watch.ABTW: What was your first grail watch?RGM: It was a Patek 3970 back in the 1980s. I did get one used that needed work, I repaired it and sold it back in the early 90's.ABTW: Was there ever a time in your life when you could afford it?RGM: Yea, in the early 1990s.ABTW: What did you like so much about the watch?RGM: The complications and the classic look.ABTW: Did you ever get it?RGM: For a while, and then sold it.Editor's Note: Roland also referenced their older RGM 103R model, which he believes took the 3970 design and made it even grander.[Update: July 8, 2014 - While we value the quality of their product, in light of recent events, watches-dealer

He not only liked the looks, but the history behind it, and the fact that it was not an automatic. It seemed like he had learned a thing or two... Since that day I have been trying to find a special speedmaster. Something that would show that I did something more than write a check. So I
