I'm new to the forum but just wanted to let everyone know I just picked up a 300m Quartz blue mid-size today. This will be my first Omega. Always wanted one and just could not pass up the price.
I have a older Omega Seamaster 'dress' watch, circa 1962 (from the movement serial #), but I know relatively little about vintage Omegas, esp. which ones are considered collectible or valuable, and which not.The watch looks to me like it is in very good condition. There are some very small spots (tarnishing?) of the hour/minute/second hands and minor scratches on the case. All parts look original (with Omega logos) except for the watch strap/buckle. The movement is Cal. 552. It keeps good time (with a minute a day). I do not have any paperwork for the watch. There seem to be many different models of vintage Omega Seamaster which basically look alike. I would like to find out more about my specific watch and what its value might be.I wonder if anyone here can help me answer the following questions, or point me in the direction to find out more. Some specific questions I am trying to answer:(1) Is the Seamaster De Ville version of the watch more or less desirable than other versio

Here is a Very Special Treat for the New Year...An Odd watch, that is SO Stunning in Real life,it is hard to describe. This is The Illinois "Chevalier"With Black Enamel and PORCELAIN Dial.(1928)(FF) The Chevalier-type watch was made by many manufacturers...Waltham and Elgin issued watches in similar cases as did several Swiss companies. Here is an old "Waltham" ad from Nov. 1928The Watch came in Blue and Black Bezels. The rarity of this particular watch is it's DIAL.There are only 4 known Porcelain Illinois dials. (FF)(This may be the 5th)Dimentions:37X31mmThe slight hairline crack is a welcomed sight (believe it or not) showing that it is in fact, porcelain. When I asked my good buddy about this watch, the first thing he said was"I hope the dial has some hairlines on it!"It Does! This watch case was very susceptible to "Pitting"this one is very clean.FF Notes:Price when new: $25Price today: $350 to $750 (fair to excellent condition)Add $500 for Porcelain DialBlue rarer than Black2/6 Black6
