Elgin 1950 607 ¡°Bumper¡±
Elgin 1950 607 “Bumper”This Elgin was produced 1950-1951. In 1952 they made a similar model but the dial was changed a little by adding thin black line between the triangle two tone silver patterns. The 607 movement was the first USA manufactured automatic. The Elgin Co. made two watches with this movement from 1950-1952. In 1953 Elgin stops using 607 movements and started importing A Schild full rotor autowind movements.This watch was an OK find cleaned up well, but had some modification made to it. The dial, hands, and movement are original. The movement keeps good time. The case back was custom machined by a jeweler to be a press-on back. The jeweler also milled off the threads on the back of the front case. I believe this was done because the design had some known issues with the back case. The original case back was held in place by a twist-off ring. They were hard to get off and even harder to get back on without misaligning the threads and striping them.Even with the

Universal Tri-Compax
A few of you were kind enough to express an interest regarding a recent purchase of a Universal Geneve Tri-Compax, so I will take the liberty of boring you with details. Most of the info is from Pietro Giuliano Sala's recent book on the subject. The Tri-Compax is a wristwatch with three complications - chronograph, complete calendar and moonphase - hence the name. It is a common and widely held misconception that Tri-Compax refers to the three dial layout on many chronographs. The irony of course is that the real Tri-Compax has four subdials. For UG, a three dial chronograph, because it only had the chronograph complication, was simply a 'Compax.'The Tri-Compax was UG's most complicated chronograph and flagship model, introduced at the Basel watch fair in 1944 for the company's 50th anniversary. It remained so into the 1970s, when UG hit rocky times as did every other manufacture with the advent of quartz. An additional short run was produced in the mid 1980s with leftover ebauches. I

Two AP for one Patek ?
The following is on the table for me......AP 26320 Rose Gold Chrono + AP Panda for a 5980/1AR .....I'm actually considering doing this but am having some reservations. This would leave me with the 5980 as my dress/nice casual piece with a couple of Panerai and a Sub as the daily drivers. Any thought would be appreciated. TIA !!!

Advise needed please
Guys,I have been racking my head picking up a new watch for the last 6 months. I currently have a blue Omega SMPc (my daily watch). Here are my choices:A. Sell or trade in the Omega and buy a Rolex GMT II 116710LN (need the funds to purchase this piece).or B. Keep the Omega and buy a Panerai as a second piece. My dilemma is; I love Rolex as a brand (always have), but none of the pieces scream buy me (including the 116710LN). It's a great watch, but there is something about it on my 7.75 inch wrist that makes me scratch my head in doubt. In addition to my full-time job I work a side job for a high end catering staffing company. I worked an event last night and of course being a WIS my sole purpose is to check out someones wristwatch. All the younger guys (30-45) that I saw had a Rolex of some sort on. The watches they had on looked great, but nothing jumped of their wrists and said wow to me.
