What do Paul Newman, James Bond, and Jean-Claude Killy have in common? In addition to being pop-culture icons, each is famously associated with a particular model of Rolex watch. And each of these models will be represented this week at Antiquorum‘s auction of vintage and modern timepieces.Antiquorum, the world’s leading auctioneer of fine watches, holds its last auction of the year on December 13 at its U.S. headquarters in New York City. There will be 340 modern and vintage timepieces offered, led by a number of valuable Rolex models.Among the headline pieces is a Rolex Ref. 6241 Daytona in yellow gold; this reference is well-known to collectors as a rare “Paul Newman” model, distinguished by its dial design, which derived its name from the fact that it was the watch the famous actor wore regularly once he began his hobby of automobile racing. I was outside today washing my sled in preparation for a GREAT snowmobiling season (i hope hehe). Any ways it seemed like a half descent opportunity to snap some pictures. Once winter rolls around ill get some real good ones of my sled also known as my baby, and my watches. You really cant go wrong putting watches on a snowmachien and taking whole bunch of pictures . Incoming! Yes, I am excited!
I made a series of terrible mistakes yesterday...1 - I went into a jewelry store at a local mall when I saw they carried a good assortment of Seiko.2 - I took off my Orange Monster and started trying some different things on including some Ananto models.3 - Worst of all, I tried on a couple of Spring Drive models. One in particular caught my eye and kept me coming back. The feel of the watch on my wrist was excellent and the glide of the second hand was enthralling. There was a mirror directly behind the counter and the owner wisely had me look in the mirror to see the wrist presence of the piece. (sneaky)The salesman/owner of the shop was very nice and even though I was dressed casually in jeans and a t-shirt, he treated me very well and did not prejudge me. I think he was just happy to have a WIS in his store. At this point, even thought I was in love with a particular watch, I thought I was safe because I didn't have the cash or the credit to buy. Independent Omega servicers in San Francisco Bay Area?
Folks, I'm interested in picking up a used speedy. The watch is dated around 1999 and there is no known service history. So I figured I'd have it service and at the same time, do a couple of mods. Does anyone have a watch repair/service person they'd recommend in the San Francisco Bay Area? Or heck, anywhere, I'd be willing to send the watch out as well.
