Dominique Loiseau Dead: Master Watchmaker Leaves Strong Legacy
Sad news today as Swiss/French watchmaker Mr. Dominique Loiseau has passed away, Gregory Pons at Business Montres reports. He was just 64 years old. Still relatively unknown to many people, Loiseau was one of the venerable geniuses of modern watchmaking, able not only to restore incredible and complex works from the past, but invent the word's most complicated watches of today.I first encountered Dominique a couple of years ago at Baselworld upon the announcement of his new eponymous brand "Loiseau." His debut watch was the 1f4 that we offered a hands-on look here. The plan was to produce just two a year, and the 1f4 was to be the most complicated watch in the world. The double-sided uber-watch was a mere taste of the man's accomplishments. More recently, it was announced that he signed on with Girard-Perregaux for a series of unspecified projects related to the introduction of new mechanical watch technologies (and of course products). Do you think this can harm anything ?
I accidently noticed that a magnet placed on the watch-back at the 8 o'clock position will stop the watch. It's a nice way to stop the watch to allow time to catch-up to correct time without have to pull stem and reset and wait to click back in place. I noticed it when I read that the new parachrome spring is un-affected by magnets. I put a magnet to my 2005 sub, and it stopped. I tried it on my new GMTIIc and it also stopped. ?? While confused why the new GMT with a parachome spring would stop, it didn't bother me too much. I am now wondering....Am I magnetizing the mechanical wheel and spring? Could this affect the watch in the long-run? Any thoughts or opinions from you guys? Bob

Questions regarding Planet Ocean 8500
Good morning everyone,Pardon interrupt. First I want to say thank you for your greetings on my first post.Last Saturday I visited an AD and have tried 3 Omega models, Aqua Terra, Semaster 300m and Planet Ocean 8500 42mm. The Planet caught my attention. If you won't mind, I would like to ask some questions regarding the Planet Ocean. Due to it's case thickness, do you find it an issue wearing it every day? GMT vs. DJ41
I have a pretty good choice to have to make here and I would like your opinion on making it. My friends are no good at helping me make this call so I'm hoping you guys can be a bit more helpful! If I were to get a GMT I would certainly wait until after Basel because it would absolutely drain me if what they came out was something I like more than what's out right now. But if I had to go out and buy a GMT today, it would be the straight black. Like everyone else I am hoping they announce every color combination we have hypothesized about. But I would love the functionality of the two time zones. Maybe the TT but we can return to that argument in a minute.In the world of DJ I would get a 41, black, diamonds, TT, jubilee. I know most aren't a big fan of the diamonds but I think they're amazing! Now, contrasting with the GMT these are really different watches but I like the flash of the proposed DJ. Now these get in the price range where we need to think about saving up for a DD instead. B
