New member with old Patek
Hello all. I have what I think is a Calatrava. This was my Grandfathers watch which was a gift to him from my Grandmother in 1968. I was hoping that some of the folks here can tell me a little more about this watch. I want to have it restored because the crystal has a tendency to pop loose but not off. I'm not the type that will take the back off to look for serial numbers and the like, I just don't trust myself to do that to this watch. It runs like a champ. The picture of the back shows the reflection of the camera lens so that's why you see lettering. I'm not the best picture taker eitherOriginal receipt:The watch:

Any Gevril owners?
The other shopping channel was selling this brand for a couple of hours. They had a couple of new models and a few solid gold pieces that looked cool. The size of these watches are the more traditonal 38 or 40mm and the price for the gold was 4 or 5 grand, so those two factors prevent me from considering them. But has anyone taken the plunge with this brand recently or would you? Do people even know about this brand? It is "pure" Swiss for those who care about such things. Or would those of you who have this kinda dough prefer to stick with Rolex and the rest of the usual suspects?

Beware of Govberg Watch Repair!
I made the mistake of sending my vintage Omega Seamaster Chronostop for a overhaul and crystal replacement to Govberg Watch Repair. Overhaul estimate was nearly $600 (watch was running and keeping decent time)! And, that didn't include the crystal replacement, for which I never got a legitimate quote. The communication was strained to say the least and after receiving my watch back from them today I find the case back seriously scarred! Looks like they used a hammer and chisel to remove what was a loosely installed case backI installed it before sending it to them and it was barely snug! Very disappointed! So, if you're looking for a good place to send your watch for service, look elsewhere!

5164 in the pool?
I get weird about having pushers that don't screw down in any water. Any 5164 owners swim with theirs yet? I don't know if I ever will....I know Patek says it's water resistant...but the design of the pushers, I fear, may lead to me hitting one of them while it's under the water with my forearm....The only watch with pushers I've worn under water is a daytona...with them screwed tightly down. Thoughts? Any 5980 owners can chime in as well....Thanks.

(Baselworld) Flops or Misses in recent history?
Seeing as Basel is right around the corner, it'd be interesting to see what folks may qualify as a flop or a miss from Rolex in recent years. I know there will always be a few folks that may vigorously defend a watch that they enjoy, but i'd like to hear what you think Rolex would like a chance to do-over (so to speak).I'd pick the new Air King. Dial has too much going on and to me is a model that should have retained the feel of air-kings in past...
