While perusing the wares of the brand new Blancpain boutique on Fifth Avenue a few weeks back, I stumbled across this guy here. It's called the VIlleret Tourbillon Squelette 8-Day, and while it was announced at BaselWorld 2014, there wasn't a lot of attention given to it ¨C most was offered to the awesome new in-house chronograph movement seen in the Bathyscaphe Chronograph. But this new tourbillon has a lot going for it. 2 OF 3 First, it employs Blancpain's excellent in-house 8-day self-winding tourbillon caliber 25, which is quite thin at 4.85mm in thickness. That's not only thin for a tourbillon, it's also very thin for a tourbillon with an 8-day power reserve. Second, the case is an absolutely perfect 37.5mm in diameter. Yes, that's 37.5mm and nobody is calling it a lady's watch. This is the size a watch like this should be. Is it really worth saving?
I have seen some of the amazing watches that Stan has saved from the trash bin, but when is it too late to save. The reason I ask is while browsing the swamp just doing a general search for Longines I came across the following Longines chronograph cal 330 (Valjoux 22) movement, sellers asking price is $400. Then I see the pics and my jaw drops and I wonder how there can be any value in it at all, it just looks like a pile of rust in a case so badly scared that it looks worse than Rocky at the end of a movie. I found a finished auction of another Longines using the same movement, prices are around $2500, so is the rusty one really worth the effort?

Newbie with newbie questions!! Help with AP ID
Long story short, I received this watch from a friend along with a bunch of other items that fell under the terms of 'garbage' 😳I believe it to be authentic based on the socioeconomic status of my friend, but would still like to get the advice of people that are completely immersed in this world of collecting. I personally collect things like video games, arcades, bmx bikes and skateboards.. so a $40k watch is just a little outside of my wheel house 😂!I am planning on taking the watch to a local govbergs jeweler to have it serviced, new band, battery, whatever it needs.. because I have no use for this thing and would like to maximize my profits on it. I will take more pictures of it when I get home, but wanted to get this out there and see what y'all could tell me while I'm bored at work lol! I'm also kinda afraid to even take the back off this thing because I don't want to hurt anything... but I also want to know the internal numbers.. thoughts?

Visit to the Patek Boutique in NYC
Was there for Vacation last week.Inside of Tiffany & Co.These two in specific really caught my eye.Both beautiful pieces. The 5227G and the 5146G.The 5146G in specific really sang to me.Love the dial color, the versatility and the annual calendar complication.Want to see it in Rose Gold as well, to see which I like better.Certainly one I can see myself adding in the future.Own a BLNR and a 5711, hence the 5146 makes more sense to me.

Panerai White Gold - Rhodium?
I was at a dealer this weekend who insisted that Panerai had NEVER used rhodium plating for their white gold watches. He might be right, but I thought they originally used rhodium plating, and later went to a palladium alloy. My memory was that their service centers even warned you that they would not refinish their rhodium plated watches. Cant find anything on a Google search, anyone have any details on this? I'm guessing the change was some time ago, more than 5 years. thanks, mark
