Hi Rik,I've finally started work on my grandfather's Hamilton Lester with a 982 movement. With a zillion 982 movements out there I figured if I screw something up, a parts donor shouldn't be too hard to find......So far things have gone well. This is my first attempt at servicing a vintage non-Swiss movement. I realized that after removing the balance cock that the jewel setup on these watches is far different from the ETA movements I've been learning on. Especially the jewel mounted on the balance cockyou aren't removing that one without removing the balance and hairspring first.Since I've not had any experience in removing hairsprings I'm not sure what to do at this point. I came across this article which shows carefully lifting the balance in order to put a drop of oil on the jewel on the cock. (The part on oiling the jewel is at the bottom of the page.)HOW TO CLEAN AND OIL A VINTAGE MECHANICAL WRIST WATCH OR POCKET WATCH REPAIRIs this a better idea than trying to remove the s
Sorry for posting in the Rolex forum but I know many of you own speedmasters and thought I would get the most helpful answers here. I just purchased a BNIB speedmaster 3570 in June and have been wearing it daily since. Sometime last night while I was out and about, the bezel fell off and disappeared! I was staring at my watch wondering why it looked different....took me a few seconds to realize what happened. I'm still shocked that this happened....I didn't hit or bump the watch on anything and there isn't a scratch to be seen on the crystal or the case. For a watch that was NASA certified I'm absolutely stunned. Has anyone else seen this happen? Could this be a warranty claim or am I stuck buying a new bezel? Thanks for reading....any advice you can offer is much appreciated.
