Panerai PAM 243 wrist watches news:
Hey guys pretty new here to this forum but I've lurked around and its cooler then some other watch sites I've been to. I never signed up with them. By way of introduction I started my watch interest almost 20 years ago. It started by taking apart an old mechanical wrist watch I found in a drawer at my parents'. IIRC it was called Hirsch on the dial. "nurse watch" I got it running and then snapped a stem on the balance wheel taking it a part and putting it back together again IIRC. Back then in the Chicago Trib there would always be these ads for watches I'd never heard of w/B&W pictures. One was of a IWC with all these extra dials (portofino) it looked so cool I had y wife call the jeweler and ask about it. They said it was IIRC $8K w/t strap an $12K maybe with the bracelet. She asked how late they were opened on Saturdays! We didn't but a few weeks later I got a catalog from the same store in conjunction with American Express. They were extending 12 months finance no money down No
So a few weeks ago Scott (timesofplenty)saysHey have I got a cool Band for you...It is Lizard and vintage:"Out of the thousands of bands I've had, this is the only one I've come across like it."How could I resist that?!?I have been waiting for just the right watch, and after a long wait, I finally found a YGF Illinois WentworthIt fits perfectly!Scottyou were right, it is very coolThanks for another great Band for the collection!
This is the watch I am saving up for next. It is limited edition of 30, specially made for Shinjuku Isetan in Tokyo. It is similar to SBGW001, except with a different dial and a see-through back. I hope I can save faster than it can get sold.
Just managed to snag this one from the 'Bay. My understanding is that Longines didn't certify a whole lot of movements during the early 1970's. The serial number places this model in 1972.The movement is a cal. 6651, which is a derivative of the Ultra Chron 36K beat movements. This one beats a little slower at 28.8K. Some have speculated that chronometer version should have a gold trimmed rotor. This would be true for the cal. 431, but I'm not sure about these later versions. The watch head reminds me of a Chunky chocolate bar. Thick and heavy, it weighs about two ounces by itself. My guess is this was a stainless steel only model as a solid gold version would have cost a fortune, even back then. Good thing that the bracelet is equally heavy. It balances the watch well and the complete package is surprising comfortable to wear. It is very high quality, with small "open-close" switches on links that may be removed for adjustment. I think the clasp is original as it has the fly
