At the close of Baselworld one of my clients in the consulting part of my business has asked me to dive into today¡¯s state of the various groups active in the watch industry. Some of my insights and opinions might be of interest to a larger audience as well and my client has given me permission to share my findings with a larger audience, too. Albeit in a shortened version.General RemarkThe economic downturn has been particularly savage in the watch industry. For years prior to the crisis the output has declined and the concentration had been steadily progressing already. However, the recession has brought dire straits for some of the groups as the output in the watch industry has been falling by up to 40% over the course of 2009.As in any event there are winners and there are those doing less well. I am therefore inclined to start with those groups loosing out and having or being in the process of finding new ways. The Groups Stumbling (in alphabetical order)The Italian group Gruppo Bin
My 1 year AP Diver died.Im running with it, i kept running at looking at the watch. I think to myself:i have been running for a long time, but why its only 10 minutes Im so tired but I keep running. After several time I realized the watch has died! I wind it and its still not working. I have many watches like rolex or the ETA tag heuer, they never had any problem with it.Its still under warranty, Im going to service it soon, I hope its free.Im thinking why the high brand and expensive watches like AP can be died by only 1 year of using it? while the cheaper brand with ETA movement doesnt have any problems.Does AP watch should not be used while running? To break the rules you must first master them!

About to pull the trigger on a GMT II (16710) and am seriously torn between two watches. Black bezel 16710 in good condition (7/10) with box & papersPepsi bezel 16720 in great condition (near NOS) with current RSC (till 2020) and box with spare black bezel but no original papersThe Pepsi is €300 more.I'm looking for a Pepsi ideally but want a black bezel too to swap out occasionally (the lower price of the black is enough to buy a spare Pepsi bezel)Can't decide which to go for!
