Patek Philippe Patek Philippe 5881 wrist watches news:
I have a 1971 Omega Seamaster, that was working fine, until last summer. On a very hot summer day in New York, the watch got somehow moisture inside. The face got discolored a bit. The watch stopped working. The second hand runs, but not the other two hands. We have been unable to open the watch for inspection.Every time we use the air pump, the front glass pops out,but not the back case, that we need to open and to see, how extensive the moisture damage inside the watch was.Any suggestions,on how to open the back case without poping up the front glass?I read someplace, that you could use a freezing compound on the metal back case to make the metal contract, and them use the air pump. How do you prevent the face glass from poping out?Any help would greatly appreciated.
As a new collector I have a few watches. I tend to stay away from the more modern watches (quartz, kinetic) and stick to the manual wind or automatics. I currently have an old Ellis, (apparently pre WWII) and Imperial Datomatic 25 jewel, an Omax (1960s Swiss auto) a Gruen auto, an Elgin from approx 1962-1966, a swiss made Davis, Swiss made Paul Peugeot in original box, 2 vintage Swiss Croton autos and 1 Croton quartz, an Armitron auto with Sea Gull movement, a Titoni made between 1961-1970, a 1979 Seiko 5, a new Seiko 5, and I have a Dugenia auto with the 1050 1461 movement and a Buren with a Buren Grand Prix movement coming. Been collecting a few months. Some watches were given to me, some came from thrift stores and some from ebay. I am not as young as I once was and am no longer physically able to make the money I once did. So I obtain watches I like. And I plan on getting them all worked on and kept in good shape to hand down to my kids. Watches are miniature machines, tiny pieces
So my mom was cleaning out her cupboards and she stumbled upon this vintage Omega that she got from her boss a long time ago when she started working. I have the box and all paperwork including the original purchase receipt, date of purchase, serial number, etc.I couldn't find any markers on the underside of the watch, but the receipt is dated November 20, 1977. The gold strap that the watch is on right now isn't original, but I have the original leather strap as well also in mint condition (pictured). Is it worth restoring? The watch is in pretty much mint condition since my mom has never worn it for the past 30+ years. However due to its age it obviously would need some servicing.Any insight into what it actually is would be really helpful!
...As far as Rolex is concerned.I read everyone questioning (moaning) about the off color of the new s/s Pepsi (and the WG one as well). Has anyone stopped long enough to consider that maybe, just maaabybe, that this might be exactly the colors Rolex want to put out. I for one think so. Rolex isn't going to say, Well boys, its not exaclty what we were aiming for, but gosh darn it, its pretty damn close. Lets roll it out! Not only for the WG, but a second time with the s/s. They had since 2014 to get the colors right. The fact that the color is exactly the same tells me that are happy with the tone of the color and is exactly what they want. Some may not like it, but i believe this is what Rolex was trying to achieve. And as far as they are concerned, they nailed it. Ceramic and aluminum are two different material and will not produce the exact same color. Ever. Im not a lover of the ceramic pepsi, nor am I a hater. I just don't think Rolex is regretting the colors.
OK - so I got the Rolex bug. Love my 114060 (2 weeks old) and it has made me rethink some of my other watches. I am now looking to add a second used Rolex to my collection. May even sell/trade off my watches and keep just 2 or 3 Rolex's. I know this is a personal decision, but advice is never a bad thing. Let me know if you started over what would you get. Appreciate the insight!! I do not require a GMT, but don't mind having more functionality. Current114060 - Daily (Haven't taken off my wrist minus sleep) - only one I grab now in the morningOptions (no order)1. 116610LV - This started my infatuation for Rolex, but prices are high now. Couldn't justify the huge increase over my SubC. Seems redundant since its a second sub. I do love it though!!2. 116670 BLNR - I like the black and blue bezel, but it's sort of similar to the sub (black dial). Seems like I am adding some Blue and PCL's to a Black sub (minus complication). If they had a Pepsi in SS I would choose that over BLNR3. 216570
