Piaget GOA38160 wrist watches news:
I found my Granddaddy's old Omega Geneve it looks just like Paul H.'s:
Not me, I took the name from grandfathers watch! Some background history on this Hamilton 992-Grandfather was a mid-western farm boy who got to experience fine American mechanical objects during the "Great War", that's him on the right astride that 1917 Harley Davidson T-Twin.Upon discharge in 1919 he met my grandmother at Camp Shanks in NY where she worked as a clerk. After marriage, they moved to Sparrows Pt MD where he obtained work as an operating engineer at the Bethlehem Steel Plant.I'll assume after saving some money and needing a timepiece, he purchased this watch from a jeweler in Baltimore. The serial # dates this to 1919, and the interesting part is that this TIME KING dial was only made for this one store- (info from NAWCC bulletin).Grandmother gave me this watch when I started collecting in 1991, I had it serviced and re-cased it in this salesmens sample case to show off the movement-I hope you've enjoyed the story of some family history and of the "Time King"
Hey guys,This past weekend my father was speaking to an old friend and the topic of watches came up. Not sure how one thing led to another, but his friend offered to send him an old Omega that he had sitting in a drawer. He mentioned that it didn't work, but my father said he would like to see it.I was worried that it might be fake, but it arrived today and it seems to be authentic. The watch itself seems fine despite not working, however the leather strap seems to be aftermarket and added later on. The strap is labelled Speidel, is 18mm and stamped Hong Kong. The booklet is dated August 1st, 1975 and cost 1600 rupees which was $161 dollars. I guess that seems about right, but again, I'm not sure.If any Omega experts could chime in, I would really appreciate it. I couldn't get to the movement because it seems to go in from the front and I have no idea what I'm doing.I'm wondering if it should even be serviced or sent to someone in an attempt to get it running again. Not sure what that w
