Hot on the heels of this budding young watch company’s new releases at Baselworld 2009 comes another crazy concept of allowing the wearer of this unique Azimuth timepiece to “go back in time!”, sort of a time machine, so to speak.Since the inception 5 years ago by two Singaporeans; Alvin Lye and Christopher Long, watch collectors have identified Azimuth brand to be avant-garde and totally against the grain of traditional watchmaking. Well, Azimuth did not disappoint with this newest release! At first glance, one might be forgiven for not noticing anything different in this simple watch with hour, minute and subsidiary seconds hands with a date function. However, on closer inspection, you will be amused to spot the numbers are inverted and so is the brand! What gives? Well, you are looking at the first Swiss Made MECHANICAL wrist watch that tells time counter-clockwise! Azimuth has cleverly modified the mechanism so that both the hour and minute hands move counter-clock
I had mentioned a while back how I was interested in a skeleton watch. I had been keeping my eye open and then ran across a post for this particular watch from Tao International. I hit the 'bay, did some scouting - and had a package arrive yesterday!Build quality is super. I am very impressed for a watch that costs so little (cough, cough - MSRP $3,600). The movement is based on the 6497 - they say running at 21,600, I say 18,000. It is keeping good time, too early to tell for sure but looks to be in the +/- 8 secs per day depending on position. I find the watch stunning - the detail is just enough - some skeletons are a little over the top for me, this is just right...I like the dial, I know some think a skeleton is completely without dial, this aids in legibility.I am usually not a coin edge guy, but this is done just right - not overbearing and the crown fits in nicely with the rest of the watch. One of the few flaws on the watch is the coin edge on the bottom - look near the m
I¡¯ve always preferred a rubber strap. I¡¯ve always liked the size of the Daytona I like contrast in a dial. I like the ability to have a sub-timer. I like lume. This watch is awesome.
