In Fred Friedberg's wonderful book, "The Illinois Watch" The life and times of a great American watch company,There are 4 Logical "Periods" for Illinois watches...1) Transitional Pre World War I to the early 1920's2) Generic Early 1920's to early 1930's3) Deco Late 1920's to early 1930's4) Moderne Early 1930'sHere is a wonderful example of a "Burlington" from the Transitional period.I was very fortunate to find this little beauty at our sponsor"A. My 15300 came back from service today after a total overhaul which was completed as a courtesy even though the warranty ended a year ago. The service took just about half the estimated time (5 weeks instead of 11!) And it looks absolutely like new. I couldn't be any happier with AP service and I absolutely recommend them. A+ for sure!
Has anyone on this forum had to file a claim with their insurance company for a Rolex watch, who is willing to share what value their insurance company gave them compared to Rolex suggested retail? The reason I ask is that I recently filed a claim with my insurance company for a lost Rolex, and the quote they received from Rolex was only about 75% of suggested retail price. In the end this was irrelevant to me, as I asked them to send me a replacement watch (same model as the insured piece), but it did make me curious.Does Rolex perhaps quote them the wholesale price?

Yesterday I flew into San Francisco from Germany walked up to a custom's officer at the airport and asked to pay the federal import tax on a watch. He at first was a bit shocked as I was standing several feet from the exit but after I picked up my bag there were no signs as to where to pay the tax. In my readings I had read of a severe penalty for not paying the tax. When I was finally asked to place my bags on the counter the officer started to say the tax is free for the first $800 and then 6.25% on the balance. She also confidently told me they knew how to find the cost of the watch. The percentage she told me sounded incorrect as I had read on several threads it was about 3-4 %. Today I went to the Federal customs website and it appears that a steel, automatic watch has a tax of 3.1%. A watch with diamonds or made of a precious material is 6.25%.Can anyone confirm the correct tax percentage for a Rolex Steel Sub?I repeatedly asked the agents for a final detailed account. They told m
