Kering, the luxury goods conglomerate formerly known as Pinault-Printemps-Redoute (PPR), has acquired 100 percent of Swiss luxury watch brand Ulysse Nardin, an independent brand that had long been the subject of takeover rumors. Next Thursday, I'm flying down to Florida to attend my brother's 50th birthday bash. Living on opposite coasts, we don't see each other too often, and there's no way I'm missing this celebration.I'm torn on what to get him for a birthday present, though. Some have said that just being there (he doesn't know I'll be there) will be present enough. I think that might be true if this was, say, his 49th birthday, but the "Big 5-0" is special.On my flight home from Toronto on Tuesday, it dawned on me that an appropriate gift would be my Omega Seamaster Professional. I know he likes the watch; he's made comments about it in the past. He would never purchase anything like that for himself, and I'm probably in a better position to eventually replace it than he would be to go out and buy one for himself.My brother and I are very, very close. It wasn't always that way. When I was younger, I did things I'm not proud of. I can't believe I would ever do things like that to anyone, let alone a member
