Just got the following watch on ebay, and wonder if anyone can provide some expertise on whether this seller makes sense/sounds reasonable, etc..? I recently got a line on a Gruen Veri-Thin Autowind in a "junque" shop in New Orleans. It's dirty, needs service, but it does work and keeps time. I have a reference book coming, but I may have to move fast on the piece. I could feel the armature winding, and the sweep second hand started moving with no intermittent motion, even in different positions. I didn't feel the armature hitting any bumpers, though. Did they make Autowinds that were continuous winding (w/o bumpers)?I only had a quick look at it since the store was closing and the clerk was not about to delay going home. I wasn't able to pop the back, so I wasn't able to get a movement identification. The case is Rolled Gold PlatedI know what Rolled Gold is but does the "Plated" designation indicate anything else, such as a cheaper process?Generally, are Autowind Veri-Thins scarce? From what little I've read the Gruen Co. didn't make these very long. I just wondered about if anybody thinks I should pursue this for cleaning/rest
Hi FolksHelp required please on identifying this watch :a)serial nos yearb)What does the L3 etc meanc)Estimate of valueAll help is very much appreciatedthanks
A question for all of the admirerers and wearers of the typical modern watch, and I am speaking of the multidialed monsters that are nearly as big as my palm .....As an artist I find them unattractive, and too busy to boot ! .....Now I understand a divers watch, or a pilots watch....they are useful for people who dive, or fly.....but I am betting that most wearers of those watches don't dive or fly....and are all multis divers watches.????So, my questions, actually I have 2 ......1) how many of you actually use all those dials? and 2) what on earth is is about them that you men like so much ????It escapes me, and perhaps someone can explain to me just what it is about them that makes them so popular ......oh and maybe throw up a photo to explain why you like this kind of watch ? Thanks !
Hi Guys,Anyone else find that their titanium bracelet for the ROO to be sharp at the edges and scratch their wrist? Funny thing is there are no visible marks on my wrist, but at times it becomes annoying. It's a mute point because I bought an OEM AP rubber band/titanium plots/buckle. I will have it changed at the AP boutique in Bal Harbor in a few weeks.Happy Holiday
