Ideas for a watch gift for a good friend retiring from the militaryI am looking for a gift for a friend that is retiring from the Air Force after 20 years of service. I have a general idea in mind of the design and style but cannot seem to find it. Maybe you can help me out. _I want it to be within the 36-39mm width range. For some reason, watches have grown too large these past few years. And preferably between 10-14mm thick._Looking for either automatic or hand wound. _Under the $2000 price range, so $800-1500 would be ideal._Have a classic face and dial design; nothing new age or modern._Have a display back to see the movement. _I would prefer it have a leather strap with clasp tang._I will probably have it inscribed with his initials and dates of military service._A bonus would be if it had a day-date display with the days in German instead of English.If anyone has any ideas please reply or shoot me an e-mail message.Chris

The Crown
I was asked (and got a couple PMs on the operation of the Ploprof crown so I thought I'd try a few pics on it's operation.The Ploprof crown has got to be one of the most protective crown devices I've seen on a wristwatch. Everything about the ploprof screams overengineered and crown is no exception. Fully inclosing the winding crown, the only thing I have that compares is Panerai with it's device for protecting the crown, but the ploprof design has got be a bit more so as it raises and lowers as the crown is unscrewed.Seen here it's fully closed position, the crown is protected all around including the top.The Ploprof imploys a three position crown. Unscrewing the crown allows the watch to be wound in the normal way. (Omega states a 60 hour PR fully wound). Note how the top of the crown rises.Position 2 allows one to jump the hour hand in one hour increments forward or backwards without affecting the running of the seconds or minute hand. New purchase today.
Hey everyone, I picked up a Omega Seadweller PO today. I actually picked it over the SS Rolex Sub Date I was originally looking at. The Sub is a great looking iconic watch, but I already own a couple Rolex and the PO just smiled at me a little more.. For almost half the price, I think it's a great looking watch with an incredible movement. I love the all brushed look of the bracelet, although I do think the Rolex bracelets do have a nicer feel to them, even though i'm very happy with the Omega clasp. The anti glare crystal makes the dial very easy to see at all angles, and even though I was originally going to get the model with the black bezel and the orange 12, 6, 9, after seeing them in person I picked the all black. It's simple yet classy, which is exactly what I was looking for. The orange tip on the second hand still adds a splash of sportiness if that's even a word :) I've only owned my PO for a few hours now, but so far I am extremely happy with it.
