TAG Heuer and Parsons The New School for Design have unveiled the winners of the ¡°Art of Watchmaking,¡± a 10-week competition that challenged eight teams of Parsons product design students to reinterpret TAG Heuer’s classic Monaco chronograph. During the review, each of the student teams showcased three concepts, and discussed their inspiration, target consumer and design philosophy. Ideas ranged from a Monaco with a rotating case to designs inspired by the New York City transportation system.First-place honors went to the team of Yong Yi Lee, Yoav Menachem and Amit Ran, whose designs included numbers to appeal to collectors.Second-place honors went to the team of Enrique Diaz Rato de Zabala, Michelle Organ and You Jin Sung, whose designs included a black ceramic timepiece with colorful accents.Third-place went to the team of Yusuke Sekiguchi, Christopher Beatty and Helen Kim, whose designs included a piece with naturally grown crystals in its dial. Each member of the three teams w
Hello Gang...Our very own Fred Friedberg just published an AMAZING articlein the NAWCC (March/April) addition of "Watch and Clock"Bulletin.Fred tells the amazing story of 2 Consuls...Both Stories were the result of engravings foundon the casebacks...If you don't get the magazine, I am told you can see it on lineYou all should be NAWCC members, a fine organization! The Consul has been called the "Greatest Wrist Watch ever made in America"and anyone who owns one can attest to their incredible beauty! The "Convict" watch is a one off pinstripe dial with subs at 9and the "Undertaker's" has a custom dial with the owner's name instead of numbers...I don't want to spoil the article, So I sayJUST READ IT!!An incredible piece of research and a 2 fascinating stories! If you don't have one of these rarities, I understand Fred may have one or two extra in his arsenal for sale, seriously hard to come by, gang!also, Rick assisted Fred in the article, so you know it is really good stuff!
First post and hoping to get some quality feedbackI was never really into watches until recently when my Fossil broke down. After 3 weeks of intensive learning, I've finally learned how important a quality watch is. I started looking for 2 watches, one for business/formal wear and one for casual everyday wear. I decided that they need to be automatic and simple, no special features just ability to tell time. I wanted a watch from a known reputable company but not one that costs too much. Omegas, Breitlings, etcwere already too high for me so I looked for the middle ground.I love roman numerals and found the dress watch. I bought a Raymond Weil Tradition watch The casual watch was a tough one, not many come in roman numerals so I left it as an option. I wanted something that would go with almost anything especially a navy blazer. My jeweler friend suggested that I look into Invicta or Oris and sure enough I found two watchesI Love the way the Invicta looks and its a good price, but the
Dear All,I have come across a thread and video from a 5170 owner in another forum, who noticed a very small pause of the chronograph hand while passing the 0/60 second markI found the same behaviour in my 5270 (which share the same CH29 based caliber). It does not happen in each and every time, but in around half of the occasions. The pause is very subtle, but if you deliberately look for it at the 0/60 second mark, it can be seen. Hence I did not notice it after wearing my 5270 for few months, until I read that post.Recently I met a staff of the PP service center at a horology event and he told me that it is normal for the CH29 caliber to have this very slight pause of the chronograph second hand while passing the 0/60 second mark in some of the time, which may be related to the power diversion to the instantaneous minute counter. It will be great if other fellow 5270/ 5170 owners can share their experience.I have attached a video of my 5270 showing the subtle pause of chronograph seco
