Historical Perspectives: Audemars Piguet And The Ultra Thin Automatic Tourbillon Caliber 2870 (AKA The Thinnest Self-Winding Tourbillon Ever)
There are, let’s face it, not a whole lot of real firsts in watchmaking, which isn’t surprising when you think about its history. The lever escapement, which is found  in basically every modern watch in one form or another, blew into town in 1750; the minute repeater had basically taken on its current form by the end of the 18th century; the first perpetual calendar watch is probably one made by Thomas Mudge, in 1764.  The history of watchmaking is very much a history of small, hard-won incremental improvements that unfolded over a very long period of time, which is why watches like Audemars Piguet’s caliber 2870 automatic tourbillon – less well known for its reference number, 25643, than for the name of the movement, for reasons we’ll see shortly –  continue to be interesting, and continue to be stories worth telling. George Daniels - Co-Axial Escapement
Hi all,I've just been "reprimanded" on another forum for suggesting that this could have been the greatest horological develepment of recent times. Seemingly there are concerns that this innovation leads to more regular maintenence visits. Considering many laud George Daniels as the greatest watchmaker of the 20th Century - and add to this that the co-axial escapement is seen as his greatest achievement - I figured I was on terra firma saying that this was indeed a huge innovation of recent times? I didn't realise a series of anecdotes and opinions from people on another forum about the increasing need to maintain Omega watches with this movement would lead to me being gently admonished.I have a lot of respect for the depth of knowledge on this forum and as a result would like to garner your opinion on the matter (I don't mind if you think that I am wrong as I like to learn). ROO Date Indicator & Driving Wheel Replaced
Hey Folks,So a while back I start a thread asking about my some issues i was having with my watch.here...ROO Date wheel stuck & watch running slowBasic gist of it was that I had a one time incident where the date wheel got stuck at midnight for an hour, generally speaking both winding and tightening the crown seemed really rough almost like it was grinding, and last (and least of the issues) the accuracy was a bit all over the place.Anyway, just wanted to update you all that after I visit the NYC Boutique and handled a few other ROOs, I realized mine definitely didn't feel and operate the same way. So, I decided to send my watch in to APSC about 2 weeks ago. I'm quite happy to say it's scheduled to be back on the wrist in about a week, but I'm actually surprised to say the had to replace the Date Indicator and the Date Driving Wheel!They also had to Lubricate some component parts.It's a little bittersweet. 5711 or BLNR?
I have the option to purchase a 5711 white dial for USD 38k. Another seller proposes a BLNR for USD 10k. Both are BNIB and both offers will expire soon as these pieces sell like hot cake. I have to make a decision in the next 24h. I have been on the look out for both for very different reasons.Which one should I go for and why? I have my own idea but would appreciate your views.Thanks!

I have always loved the YachtMaster. I thought of it as a sophisticated submariner. Anyway, got the blue dial 4 years ago. Really loved it. it was wonderful. But then at last, got a little bit tired of it and so traded it for the new yacht Master with the platinum dial. Man – what a difference! It is incredibly elegant, beautiful, understated, sleek and incredibly gorgeous! Couldn’t be happier. Surprised at my thoughts since I had seen pictures of the platinum dial yachtmaster many times and was underwhelmed. It never moved me. However in the flesh – it rocks!
