Patrizzi to Auction Historic Original Breguet Manuscripts on May 7
On May 7 in Geneva, Patrizzi & Co. will auction a historic manuscript written between 1818 and 1823, during the last years of Abraham-Louis Breguet’s life. The document, which recently resurfaced, chronicles Breguet’s horological innovations, the history of his firm, watch calibers and complications, and his overall philosophy and designs. Breguet dictated the text to his assistant Louis Moinet and edited and noted corrections by hand. Breguet died in 1823 before it could be completed. “It is hard to stress the importance of this event to the world and more specifically to the horological world,” said Osvaldo Patrizzi, chairman and CEO of Patrizzi & Co. “These are the writings of the master of horology, the knowledge his lifetime ¨C from which we can learn many details that we have until today only been able to speculate on. Anyone here ever this
Stopped by the Jewler today to have a look at the Rolex watches he had in stock. I struct up a conversation with the man behind the counter. He told me that in the many well to do circles of the world, Rolex is considered a low end or cheap watch. He said there is a lot of time pieces that are far better than the Rolex. He started to tell me about the Patek and a few others. I couldn't beleive what he told me. I always thought Rolex was rated numer one in the Horological world. I guess that shows how much I don't know! Just wondering though, has anyone here ever heard Rolex being considered a low end in Swiss watches.Rob

For Wednesday, a Lord Elgin Celestial, another watch from the Horizon Look collection. When I first got this watch, it had radium lume on the end of the hands. When I had it serviced, I had my watch guy remove it because it truly looked like an amateur painted lume on the tips of the hands.Since then, I had a few other Celestials pass through my hands, and guess what, they all had lume on the tips of the hands. Obviously it came from the factory like this. Then I found this ad, describing it as a Nite-Glo dial. Usually the Nite-Glo designation meant that the underside of the hands were covered in radium, resulting an illumination of the dial via the hands, but in this case, Elgin went in a different direction.That I had the lume removed has really been bugging me , so tonight I relumed the top end of the hands and the hour dotswhich I think came out pretty good despite less than steady hands.

Longines Hydroconquest
For some reason the pics on the Longines site really don't do it for me.But whenever I see a real life pic they really grab my eye:I think I am really going to have to have a good long look at one soon. I am getting tempted to move from Seiko divers to the HydroConquest models!! I saw a pre-loved blue HydroConquest for sale yesterday (the one in the pic above) that really stopped me in my tracks for a while. I'm still thinking about it!! Part of what has me very interested (apart from the looks and the brand of course!) is that it is a quartz! I would really like to add a good quartz movement to my collection. Some days I don't have a decent watch wound, set and ready to go (especially if I have been wearing my Seiko SKXA35 all weekend), and so would like a quartz that I can grab and go when in a rush.There are 2 small hitches:1) It is 39mm. I haven't tried it on, but others seem to say that it wears bigger than this measured size. But then again, there the automatic models come in 41m
