I asked this a long time ago and never understood it to be truthful. But I found an excerpt from a new book I'm reading about watches.Here is how you read your tachometer."The tachometer may have a spiral scale around center of dial, this indicates miles per hour, based on a trial over one mile. It indicates speed from 400 to 20 miles per hour on three turns. Each turn of spiral corresponds to one minutes (scale for first 8 seconds being omitted), the outer turn from 400 to 60(0 to 1 minute) and the center turn from 30 to 20 miles per hour (2 to 3 minutes).When passing the first marker of mile zone, start chronograph hand by pressing the push piece. When passing following mile marker, press push piece again. The chronograph hand now indicates the speed in miles per hour on the spiral. If a mile has been made in less than one minute the speed will be indicated on the outside turn of spiral; from 1 to 2 minutes on middle turn and 2 to 3 minutes on center turn.Example: If a mile has been

Need Help! First Nicerish Watch Purchase
First off Fellas I have to say this seems to be a very nice little community. I've been reading for a few days and am impressed by all the great information that flows around here. Here's my situation.For my 27th birthday my fiance decided she wanted to buy me a nicer watch. I've worn Bulova & Swiss Military for years.To make a long story short, I had pretty much settled on buying a TAG Auquaracer (quartz) from a local AD. It has the styleing that I like, and falls within the 1K give or take a little price range.Then I found another neat little local shop that sells pre-owned, and realized I could get into an Omega, Bretling, etc. for well within my price range.Then I couldn't decide on automatic or quartz, and then I found some wonderful forums and really got all confused.So what I need are some good recomendations on a good first watch for the collection, this will be an every day wear kinda watch that will see Jeans and tshirts as well as a shirt and tie. Ok guys, I figured out the weight descrepency between the 44mm RG and Pt pieces!I weighed my watch with the leather strap on, 245.4 grams. Took leather off to throw the white rubber on for a fun day out and about. While apart, I decided to throw the straps on the scale... The leather strap weighed 12.6 grams. Then, I weighed my rubber strap, 34 grams, 21.6 grams more!The newer RG 26401 cases are slightly lighter, and said to be around 220-225 grams, and of course they come WITH the rubber strap. So, the Pt with the rubber weighs about 267 grams, or about 20% more.
