Entry into the world of Omega
Well I made the leap and bought my first Omega. The PO XL Black. The back story is that a few years ago I was on a cruise (RCCL) and wandered through on of the shops on board. I saw the Seamaster Bond co-ax for the first time. Could not get my mind around paying $3k + for a watch. Fast forward a couple of years and a couple of cheap throw away watches later. I decided to consider spending more than coffee money for a watch.Search the forums read tons or reviews etc etc. But all the time kept remembering how awesome that Omega Seamaster looked and felt those years ago. No no no way I could spend $3K plus for a watchbut boy that was something...something about that day never left me. The weight, the precision, the way it felt on my wrist....Ok ok...no way I could spend $3K on a watch.But I will call around anyway and maybe try one on..Reach Jared in NH. I realized today that I own an Elgin with movement # 32777777. Since 7 has always been my lucky #, this is one I like will keep a while and wear a bit. :) Does anyone have a better "hand"?

Legend status: manual Daytona v. modern Nautilus
Just a thought/question I've had lately and wanted to put out for the opinion of you esteemed Patek enthusiasts on a Rolex forum: With the ongoing craze for the Nautilus causing steel 5711/12 5980s/90s to reach 2nd hand prices closer to the 50-60k mark, do any of you consider the relative (value and collectibility) merit of purchasing a manual wound Daytona instead? I suspect the vast majority of you (and myself I'll say) all waited and purchased your Nautilus from an AD at retail. But, when multiple treads on this forum have started asking how many non coveted PM Pateks one has to purchase from an AD to be considered for the opportunity to purchase a steel 5711 for 30k, obviously we all see at least a slight bubble. It hard to predict the future but manual wound Daytonas have been the top echelon of Rolex and sport but really all watch collectibility for a generation. Can we say the same for the modern Nautilus in whatever metal? These are tribute models produced for the last 12 years

About to buy myself a new Calatrava.Probably leaning towards yellow gold with a black strap. I've never had a gold watch before so I really like the idea of yellow gold on black.I've also never had a manual wound watch before. Only automatics, so I'm not sure if I should go for an auto or manual watch.Tossing up between the 5119J or 5120J or 5127J. Quite like the date on the 5127, but somehow the hobnail of the 5119/5120 just oozes class.I'm intending to wear this watch as much as I can. Will just buy a new leather strap if it gets worn out.Is there a way to know the date of manufacture from the Patek serial number?Anything else to watch out for when buying a new calatrava?
