Zenith 02-0450-680-01 wrist watches news:
My fondness for German watch Making is often clear as I make mention to watch makers and designers whose work produces beautiful or utilitarian timepieces. Here we have a rare combined effort of two of Germany's most exclusive had dedicated watch makers. Nivrel is known for their well-made classically simplistic timepieces which perform their functions in an uncluttered and simple execution. Benzinger, using their watch tools and machines from days of old, bring a rare attention to tiny aesthetic detail on each visible part of the watch and movement. This technique called "decorating" or "gilding" uses fine machines and tools to carve patterns on to the surfaces of a watch.Jochen Benzinger performs what is a lost art; the idea of taking the time to decorate the fruit of one's labor. In America especially, during the 19th and early 20th centuries, furniture makers would decorate their creations with patterns, carvings, and delicate attention to detail. I checked with my guy and he's open to taking on more work and loves to work on Hamilton movements. He was recommended to my by another member, and he's done all the service work on the watches I've been selling recently. His work is good, the price is reasonable, and he has good turnaround time. It's not his main job, but he's been doing it for about 20 years. PM me if you would like his contact info.
This week a lot of 4 Elgins came up on Ebay. One of them caught my eye. It is the same case shape as one of the solid gold Lord Elgins. But it IS a mystery! The lug was almost falling off when it arrived, and fell off completely when I tried to remove the bracelet. But the lugs are MALE, requiring FEMALE springbars! I don't know when those stopped being used, but it seems to me these may be pretty late for them. The broken lug is also bent. I'd like to fix it, but i don't know how yet.The caseback is stamped "Cased and Timed by Elgin National Watch Co.; Swiss; Acier Staybrite" - well, actually, it says 'GASED' "Acier Staybrite" is a form of stainless used in watches. I know that Omega used it. I think it's an authentic Elgin case. The style of the dial matches the age of the
Well, though I didn't think a new watch would be ringing in the New Year, I ended up securing one final piece in the wanning hours of 2009 It's in route, and should be here Monday! Anyone care to guess what it is?
Would be cool if they made these part of their regular production S
