If you are in need of any additional proof that Kickstarter is a great place to fund the development of a new watch, look no further than the Touch Time project from California based Phosphor Watches. Phosphor is well-known for their innovative digital watches which often feature E Ink (e-Ink) displays and have a sense of eye-catching charm. On August 6th, 2012 Donald Brewer and the team at Phosphor launched a Kickstarter project for their newest design, dubbed "Touch Time". Within 24 hours they had reached their $50,000 goal and, as of the time of posting, they have over 1000 backers and well over $125,000 in funding. Perhaps this is not surprising given the success of other watch projects such as the Pebble. This involves putting a wad of cash in my breast pocket, (the splint I have to wear turns out to be perfect for preventing pickpocketing and I think I'll wear it out for this kind of thing in the future) and setting out for midtown. I usually warm up with a few nearby horological highlights, such as Aaron Faber, Central Watch, a few others - maybe including new watch places Cellini and Wempe - just to be treated like a human being and steel myself for the ordeal ahead. Trade a SkyDweller for Patek 5726 White Dial?
Let's assume the numbers are all in line, which they are. I don't necessarily want to pay cash for this watch but I'm being offered it and if I do it it's going to be in trade toward something I own.Pros:1. The White dial is close to my Wife's 7018 so we'll nearly have matching Nautiluses. (Hers is a little more silvery and doesn't have an AC or moonphase)2. I like the white dial, A LOT.3. It's another Patek. Cons:1. Give up my Rose Gold SkyDweller for it? This is a very heavy watch that doesn't get as much use as my RG Daytona. But it's also precious metal as opposed to the 5726 stainless steel. Also has an annual calendar which for a Rolex is a big deal.2. I already own a 5726, Black Dial with Tiffany stamp on strap that I CANNOT let go of. Is it crazy to own two identical models just with different dials and strap/bracelet combos?
