Swatch Group's ETA Watch Movement Maker Oversteps: Receives Unlawful Monopoly Probe By Swiss Competition Commission
The Swatch Group is the largest watch maker in the world, with a highly complex vertically integrated manufacturing system with a ton of subsidiary and partner companies, as well as watch brands. The goal has always been for each watch component to be made by a company under the Swatch Group Umbrella. They've become so good, that their purchasing of companies and manufacturing arms makes them the premier maker of parts; especially movements. Swatch purchased ETA from Eterna many years ago, which was one of it's wiser decisions. ETA is the premier maker of fine watch movements in the world. They don't produce the highest volume of movements overall, but certainly the highest volume of fine watch movements.Many brands rely on ETA as a source of movements. There are alternatives, but ETA is really the only place to go for most companies' needs. Last year, ETA announced that it would cease to provide movements to watch companies outside the Swatch Group due to high demand. Many feared the

new or old chronograph?
Hi Guys,I've seen a 2004 Flieger chronograph 39mm for sale, but notice that the newer model is 42mm.I've just been to my AD and tried the newer model on. I liked the size, but to be honest I think I like the look of the older version (the squared off hr hand etc).Has anyone tried or had both and can tell me if there is that much noticeable difference between them in size, feel and weight?

Newbie member from Tucson...questions about Valentino and Stuhrling Original watches.
Good evening,I've decided that I want to start collecting watches. I'm looking over the beginner's threads and learning as I go. Just recently my fiance bought me a Seiko Kinetic watch. I always wanted one of these since my mom bought one for my father some years ago. Love it! Also saw some other watches on amazon that seem interesting as well. I was wondering about two manufacturers....Valentino and Stuhrling Original. They seem to have some interesting designs....especially the Stuhrling Originals and the prices are marked down dramatically from their suggested retail prices. Are these legitimate companies? Are these good for collecting? Are these Swiss Made? Valentino sounds Italian (I'm Italian/New York heritage). What would be a nice Swiss made piece to start a collection with? I'm looking at a price ceiling of about $500 for this first piece.Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!Henry
