I am about ready to make a large purchase. It is between the all new Omega Ladymatic (stainless steel, domed bezel, mother of pearl face with diamond markers, $8000) and the 31mm Rolex Datejust (stainless steel and white gold, fluted bezel, silver jubilee dial with diamond markers, $8250). Both are equally beautiful to me and almost the same price. I am looking at this watch as an investment piece. It will be my first automatic watch and I am very excited about that. In order to make this purchase, I have had to liquidate some jewelry pieces (ones I have not worn in some 20 years). I just want to feel confident that the pieces I got rid of were not in vain. I've tried to educate myself on the Patek applications system, but I cannot seem to find every bits of the puzzle at this forum or other Patek forums. So I thought it'd be best to ask, and hope to get an answer from those members here that already went through this system of Patek. I of course do understand why Patek needs to maintain the applications system, and by no means I'd question the existence of the whole thing. I'm not even a Patek owner yet (just a huge fan), but in a few years I hope to be able to acquire one or two Pateks, and wondering what is the best way to get into the world of collecting Pateks, considering the applications system.1) How to know if a particular reference is only available through application?
