Some really n00b questions about mechanical watch movements
Ok, so I have been posting a lot in specific forums about different types of watches, but I have a simple question.One of things I like better about a mechanical watch over a quartz watch is the way the second hand sweeps across the dial instead of ticking the way a quartz watch does.But I am curious, what makes the sweep more smooth? Is is the beats? The number of jewels?Rolex's supposedly have a perfectly smooth sweep. Are there any lower priced watches that do this too?

Seiko Fifty Five Fathoms Explorer
For quite some time I wanted to see how the FFF dial (modern?) would look with some Mercedes hands. I have always been attracted by the Explorer look and I thought that this would be a nice combination, different and unique. I also wanted to do something different from the usual FFF projects and make something without a numbered or spinning bezel, here is what this looks like: I had some Mercedes hands from Yobokies from an earlier project. I then found one of the grey (almost black really) FFF dials from Jake. Then I bought a brand new affordable Seiko automatic. I got this one because it has a nice big crown rather then one with the puny tiny crown that is hard to grasp and turn. This is my first one and I have to say that it is really nice and the crown looks really good with the case. It is too small for my over 8" wrist unfortunately, at 38mm without crown and without crown guard. The watch comes with a folded bracelet but I did not like it, I was planning anyway to get

I just spoke with the person I deal with at my AD and asked if there was a shortage on these models. He assured me there is not and it¡¯s just the time of the year before Baselworld and Rolex has not shipped. He explains if all hype by Gray market dealers to run up price. I thanked him and asked him in the next email if he had any Subs, Batman¡¯s, or Hulks in stock and he said no, not right now, there¡¯s a list. Now that was funny.

I've heard many reasons mentioned by people, for some it's simply to show off, whilst some others wear a Rolex that was given to them by a relative or friend, and others got theirs to mark a special occasion, so on and so forth.For me it was because I turned my career/future prospects around in a big way, last year, at the age of 30; I got a job that 8000 people had applied for and in the process I more than doubled my salary from my previous career. It was a completely new field for me so once I successfully passed my training I wanted to mark the occasion with something to always remind me of my hard work & study, and to always keep going and aim for the next target. What better way than a Rolex? It's something that I would never have been able to afford if I didn't get up off my a$$ and turn things around, I was working a crappy job for rubbish pay (well below the national average here in the UK), was always feeling down and had no future prospects.But why a Rolex you may ask?
