Gruen Precision with 710 SS Movement
I got this at yard sale last week. Very dirty when I got it and the plastic crystal was scratched badly.I spent a lot of time cleaning the gunk out from everywhere and I even tried my hand at oiling the movement. We'll see how that works out.First, the bad. The gold plating on the bottom of the case is worn through to the base metal on the lugs and on the back of the bezel. The hand and the hour markers have collected a bit of dirt.The good. The top and sides of the bezel look great. So when it is on your wrist, it looks very nice. The crystal, thanks to steel wool, toothpaste, and cape cod cloths buffed out nicely.The movement, once oiled, winds nicely. The rotor reads N 710 SS Precision. The movement itself reads 17 jewels, Swiss, unadjusted. The caseback reads 710 RSS and Made in Switzerland. My best guess is that this is an early 60s model. The crown on my rose gold watch appears to be a different shade of gold
I have a rose gold Aquariva Chrono and I noticed recently the end of the crown is more of a yellow gold color. It's especially noticeable in natural light. I was wondering what could account for the gold not matching up on the crown like that. I'm sorry the picture is poor quality, my camera is old and I didn't have good lighting but you can get an idea of what I'm talking about.This watch is fairly new, it can't possibly be due to wear. A factory error perhaps? It looks like some small areas around the R are more rose gold colored, but it is distinctly different than the color of the rest of the watch.

Cape cod polishing cloths... ??
Alright, so Ive read most everywhere that these cape cod cloths are the best thing to use on polished stainlessyet I am still very hesitant. I want something I can use to polish the bezel on my Hammy, but the scratches that exist there are very light. VERY light. They are all hairline, and I assume they are from coarse threads inside my shirts, or who knows! But regardless, I worry that using a polishing cloth on such light scratches will only scratch it further. I think of a polishing cloth with abrasive material on it as something you use when you want to take out more serious stuff. But I suspect Im wrong, since everyone swears by these things...Point is, Id like to know if these will return my bezel to near new status; mirror finish. Thanks guys!

Diving with the PAM25 (Pic heavy)
I was lucky to have taken a quick weekend live aboard trip to the Gulf of Thailand and here are some pics, including a couple of shots of the PAM 25, which performed superbly. Clearly I'm not a pro and I only have a small point and shoot camera, but I love taking pics. I usually dive with the Sub or the SD, but the PAM looked like it wanted to get wet this time.Enjoy!!
