Drivers Watches:What is and What is NOT
What exactly is a 'Drivers Watch' If you check out e Bay, nearly anything is or can be a 'Drivers Watch.In true terms the 'Drivers' watch was designed to be worn on the 'side' of the wrist as opposed to on top of it.They are usually very curved (to sit round the large curve on the side of your wrist, as opposed to relatively flat top of a wrist)The best 'drivers' watches have both the curved back and swinging lugs to really sit comfortable on the side of your wrist.These watches are very cool, and usually demand a price premium.Below is a 'variaton' on the 'Drivers Watch' But it is a lovely example. One additional point. Forget the sellers words 'RARE@. Everything on eBay is 'RARE' Unusual LONGINES ASYMMETRIC Vintage DRIVERS Watch!Is this 'really' a drivers Watch? No not 'exactly, but it is a lovely variation on it, and a Longines. To-morrow Doctors Watch!

Some recent finds. Gruen and Elgin.
Here¡¯s a tasty piece of Gruen bling. Nice chunky hooded lugs, an OK dial, all motivated by my favorite Gruen 335 movement.The only this missing in my book is the USA stamp on the plates. This one says Unadjusted so I¡¯m assuming it was born in Switzerland. Very same movement that was made in Cincinnati.Next is a tiny Elgin with a grade 554 movement. Style wise it looks like a cousin of my Waterproof Sportwatch.Which leaves the 554 unexplained since it didn¡¯t show up until years later. I¡¯m thinking it should be sporting a 519 or maybe a 524 from the 20¡¯s. Maybe Doug has seen this one in his ad searches.Joel

The tourbillon consists of a round carriage, or cage, holding the escapement and the balance. It rotates continuously at the rate of once per minute.

Watch minded!
Today I was reading some advertising in the newspaper, and I realized that I have become a Watch Minded guy...Why? because I looked an University advertising that said "Sea Master" (this means "become a master" in spanish) this clealry pointing to have a master's degree...But I saw at first glance Seamaster (like Omega) and thought: A new AD, great!!! I'm not reading in spanish anymore, I'm reading in watchnish
