It was a bumpy trip around town today.
Here's a story with a happy ending:I went around the corner to check out some Seiko pieces, but that turned out to be mostly a bust. Here's the best of what I saw -The 2 tone has a display back, the SS didn't. Everything else was quartz. No Pepsi bezel automatic divers, no Grand or King Seiko models, no bullheads, just run of the mill stuff. So off I go, taking a walk around after lunch with my girlfriend and her friends (it looks like I have a harem and I learn some interesting tidbits about the opposite sex's thought process). She does her retail therapy, I do my horological jaunt. Walking down South street is a laugh! I saw a shop run by a Russian gentleman selling a Patek Philippe perpetual calendar for $115 and a Vacheron Constantin tourbillon for $150. He was actually proud of the fact he sold the best fakes in town! After my brief chuckle I continue and am mostly disappointed until I stop at an antiques shop right under my nose one stinkin block from our place. I saw a

According to Watch Time magazine, the hands and screws on the bezel are made of white gold. Anyone know if this is true? If it is, why would they bother making these in white gold?

Hello AllI am looking to buy a 5196r for my father as gift in the near future. I have spent some time trying it on at the local AD and have decided its the right watch. My question is, is where can i can a brand new one without any issues but not from an AD, so i can save 3-6000$ in taxes. I am in Southern Cal. I see all these online sites like prestigetime and jomasshop, luxury bazaar etc. Are they safe. They all seem to be around for many yrs, and say all the right things on the website in regards to authenticity etc. any advice appreciated, thanks
