Breguet 8918bb/58/864.d00d wrist watches news:
Whether it's in or on a watch, art isn't just for the watchmaking elite as proven by Swatch with this model designed by Portuguese artist Joana Vasconcelos for the Biennale di Venezia (56th international art exhibition). The dial on the numbered limited edition Lookseasy (999 available) is adorned by gilded arabesques. Joana Vasconcelos used filigree, an age-old goldsmithery technique, to create an Oriental floral design on the original model which was then used by artisans to make the rest of the pieces. Three gold baton-shape hands lie discreetly on the metal lace whose PVD-coated gold wires are delicately welded together. The hands track the hours, minutes and seconds brought to life by a quartz movement inside the glossy black plastic 41mm case. Each piece is assembled by hand by the Swatch watchmakers and comes in a black velvet case lined with gold fabric.?Price: 300 CHF.?Sharmila Bertin
In the early 1940’s, the British Ministry of Defense (MoD) published a set of specifications for a wristwatch design that they wanted to use for their soldiers. The specifications are commonly referred to as WWW, or Watch Wristlet Waterproof. Twelve companies submitted watches that met the criteria: Buren, Cyma, Eterna, Grana, Jaeger LeCoultre, Lemania, Longines, IWC, Omega, Record, Timor and Vertex. These twelve watches together are called the “Dirty Dozen” by military watch collectors. Interestingly, the war ended before these great watches could be issued to soldiers for combat duty.Of the twelve brands, the Cyma is one of most popular for several reasons. The Cyma WWW is housed in a solid stainless steel case, measuring a respectable 38mm wide not including the large crown. Many of the other manufacturers used chrome plated cases which have survived to varying degrees, making the steel case of the Cyma easier to find in nice condition. Also, the 38mm case is the l
After having acquired a 1963 Reissue chronograph with the ST-19, I became interested in the other iconic Chinese watch movement from the 60's, the ST-5. I'm participating in a project on That Other Forum to acquire vintage Seagull-era ST-5's, fully refurbished and placed in modern cases. But then I decided I needed an ST-5 in an original case, and to avoid competing with those, started looking for a Dong Feng. As most know, Dong Feng means East Wind and was the model of the watch from the time before Tianjin used the brand "Seagull". It is an excellent watch and movement, simple, durable, and accurate. So, I went searching in the stocks of an eBay seller from China from whom I'd bought things in the past (particularly a vintage Favre-Leuba cal. 253 watch with no evidence at all of Mumbaitis). And he had an early Dong Feng ST-5 in really super condition, for about forty bucks. I added to it the display back made for vintage ST-5 Seagulls, which also fit the Dong Feng. That raised the tot
