Independent Watchmaker vs. RSC
My Y serial Sub is from late 2003, so it's about 6 years old and probably ready for a service. It run a tish fast, but consistent, although out of COSC specs. The case is nicked and scratched up pretty good. I wear it as my beater watch. Any reason why I shouldn't use a local independent watchmaker who has (or had, but currently has a large inventory of parts) a Rolex parts account? One guy I was recommended charges about $300-400 to service a Sub Date. He will refinish the case and bracelet as part of the service. The RSCs charge about $550. Why not save up to a few hundred bucks? I was also recommended another local watchmaker who charges $175. Now that seems too cheap. I had a bad experience with the NY RSC, so if I go the RSC route, I would use Dallas.

NOS Omega grail incoming!!!
Well, I finally was able to order a grail today that I've had my eye on for a really loooong time. I was fortunate enough for my AD to be able to order one BRAND NEW from Omega (literally the last one they had left) even though the watch has been discontinued for two years. The picture of this one was found online and shows the America's Cup version. Mine will be the same but Non-AC. Anyway, anyone who has one want to tempt me with some pictures while I wait for it to arrive? Thanks all!

Well it¡¯s plain to see AP is doing extremely well by the way their salesmen act. Extremely confident and couldn¡¯t care less about your interest or business because they really don¡¯t have anything to sell and as soon as they do it never makes it to the display case. Patek seems to be the same way. Very sad over all. Neither of these brands are anymore special then other top brands like VC, JLC or Breguet who also have boutiques there but they have stock and their people treat you well. So here is some advice for companies like JLC, VC, Breguet, Breitling and Omega. We all know your movements and quality are just as good as the others but if you want to be popular as AP, Patek and Rolex then get some of you line iced out and then get some rap stars wearing them. Demand will then skyrocket and pressure might be taken off the others. It would be nice to see the AP salesman have to earn his living by selling rather then order taking.

My new diver: Omega SM120C Big Blue
Hello!One month ago I caught this beauty watch in Genova. It is a rare seamaster also called Big Blue, ref. 176.004. It was producted from 71-74. Caliber Lemania 1040. Patek Updates
Just picked up the 5711 and thought I should probe a bit about sales and how much softening they were seeing:a). Production will reduce to about 50000;B). They have been asked to provide purchasers names on most preorders. C). Attempt to clamp down on grey market and certain models will have the warranty cars produced by PP with the buyers name in itD). Possibly holding warranty cards for 5 years on certain models - not sure how that will work??E). Nautilus 40th will be underwhelming. PP just had 175 and 40 not that important. They trying to do nothing but consumers expect a lot so will be 2 models but expect to be underwhelmed. A request for a 5711P as an anniversary piece declined by Geneva already. F). PP is reducing dealers (guess on lower production cake slices need to be maintained) therefore AD will be reluctant to offer discounts that could cause them to lose favor or their franchise. Mentioned they rather lose a deal if someone can getter better elsewhere!
